The Gentleperson’s Guide to the North Shore
The Nine Provinces of The North Shore are a collection of Hesperian vassal states, ever since their conquest almost 50 years ago. They are ruled harshly by Governor Alessandro of Hesperia and his squads of Inquisitors, who are slowly but forcefully converting the entire region into devout followers of the Holy Trinity (Mavors, Janda, and Kjallintar).
Each of the nine provinces has a name indicating the primary race of the native population, although these names were pushed upon them by Hesperia as a blatant attempt at culture conversion and are generally despised by the locals. It's clear whoever named these provinces was more of a bad poet than a topographer, and has likely not even been to most of them. Minotaur Mesa, for instance, is a grassy prairie with nothing resembling a Plateau or Butte (unless you count the Bulette pack that is said to wander a few dozen miles south of the settlement).
Visitors to The North Shore should be careful to hide any incriminating religious symbols, as the Inquisition has a much stronger presence here than in their homeland of Hesperia. In the provinces I visited, beheadings in town square for the crime of Heresy, that is to say, not worshipping the Holy Trinity above all others, were all too common. With the three priests of Mavors, Janda, and Kjallintar acting as Judge, Jury, and Executioner, these 'trials' were quick and clean, but always left a foul taste in my mouth afterward.
Still, the region is not without its attractions. Those interested in the visual arts will enjoy the seasonal gardening competitions of Hobbit Haven and the fantastical contraptions on display in Kobold Canyon. If you prefer performance arts, the aerial dances of Faerie Forest are a sight to behold, and be sure to check out the delightful comedies in the great amphitheater of Satyr Spring. For you ladies out there, I'm told the near constant wrestling matches in Minotaur Mesa are quite a titillating experience.
