Thanks again for a great time guys. The GMs did a great job pulling it all together and making things run smoothly! I hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

I too had a wonderful time, but I deeply regret not hearing the after action reports of the various GMs and the "With friends like these" and any "lesser awards"  like my charcter, Krag Maga, who should have been awarded the "Weebles Wobble but they don't fall ..oops" award for surviving a finger of death in 1 scenario (save) then in another going -7, -23, and -42 hp and still attacking in consecutive rounds before succumbing to an uninterruptable Disintergrate thrown by 1 of the 5 12th level mages (1 of 6 times the 6th level spell was thrown in the combat) he had engaged on his own.

While the acting out of the arrest of the mastermind added some flavor, my favorite part of the Con is finding out the backstory of each scenario and the amusing stories that occur in each run.  I know that a lot of this can be posted on the site but:
1.  It is more fun, I think, to hear it in a room full of people than it is reading it by yourself.
2.  We have never come even close to having all the GM's write up their adventure reports for posting on this site, even getting 3 or 4 has been a great accomplishment, so odds are if we do not hear it at the Con, we will not know what happened in runs other than our own.  On the other hand, the general ending could have been quickly done at the con with the full story of the ending could have been tasked to 1 person to either write up on his/her own or poll players at the end of the con (written) for the ending.

The solution of the mystery could have taken 5-10 minutes of the after con time instead it took over 30 and meant we missed this other really important part of the Con.

I think the lesson learned for the GMs was that if we're going to have
another player-driven wrap-up like we did this year, then final runs
will have to end at 2 instead of 3. It will be easy enough to
organize it next time, we just didn't foresee it. :)

Thanks,
Aaron

Agreed.

Without wanting to make too many promises, the GM's are committed (I think) this year to making sure the run reports do get up this year.

I ran the Senator Lucius Gaius story sequence, anyone have any
questions before I put up my notes?

We're going to make a real serious try to have the "after-action reports" written up by GMs and made available this year.

Actually I'd nominate Krag Maga Jr. for a "creative play" award for using the Bolt Lobbing Ring, intended purely as a weapon, to uninterruptibly shoot himself in the foot with a Displace Self spell (legal within the letter of the item writeup).

What's a "Displace Self spell"?

Personally, I thought the wrap-up was fun and didn't miss some of the longer-winded reviews of events that we've seen on occasion in the past. I wouldn't mind it if there were more 'scheduled' events, similar to the wrap-up at different points during the con.. I know we have done that sort of thing in the past... but sometimes it is kinda cool to bring everyone to hireling hall for an hour or so to compare notes a bit... Certainly if it can be done in a timely manner that would be great.. perhaps if there was some sort of impending timetable attached to it... which kept the clock ticking so that people couldn't ramble on too much.

To each their own (although it is not unusual for Spencer and I not to see eye to eye)

I am not suggesting that there is no value in having these little playlets in the after Con or even during the Con.  I just think that something like this can be run with more of an eye towards getting in the entire after Con, not to the exclusion of everything else.  These things have to planned out ahead of time to run in a specific amount of time.  I think an excellent use could have been to fill up the 30-40 minutes of dead time when the players wait for the results of the awards to come out.

While Spencer may think the after action reports are sometimes too long, in the 20 Cons that I have attended I can honestly say that they are always something that I look forward to, because even if I was participating in the scenario, I might not have gotten a full picture of what was going on and the reports give me an opportunity to see the Con with with an eye towards the big picture, or knowing why something happened. which is why the GMs can sometimes appear to be over long, because, unlike during the scenario,  they are trying to give context to the NPCs actions.
