Hi,

Just want to know if there are plans for the next release? I see on
the list there has been some work done on contact sync, but the svn
repository has not been updated in months. Has the project been
shelved?

regards,

Tim.

The project has not been shelved but it is dormant. The next release
will include the contact update as well. It will be released for the
BlackBerry first and then for other phones as time permits.

Hi All,

I haven't been active on this project for months partly because I
couldn't define the roadmap for this project specially since Google
released a supported version for the BlackBerry (which is one I use).
Other reasons is some mobile makers and providers don't make it easy for
open source developers to develop free software for their platforms (ie
excessive fees for app deployment and testing, crippled feature set, and
incomplete Java implementations).

You can help me define the roadmap for this project. If there's enough
interest, then I'll continue with the project otherwise it will be
shelved for good (RIP).

Can you please answer this short survey?

1) Are you currently using primosync/gcalsync? If yes, what version?
How's it working for you?

2) What is your phone make, model, & carrier?

3) What feature/bugs would you like to see addressed in the next version?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Yusuf,

Here are my answers :

1) Are you currently using primosync/gcalsync? If yes, what version?

I don't use it. I tryed all 2.x version, but they are not really working

2) What is your phone make, model, & carrier?

I use Samsung SGH F480 (called also Player Style or Tocco), my carrier
is Orange (France). This phone supports Java MIDP 2.0 and JSR 75

3) What feature/bugs would you like to see addressed in the next version?

I just would like to have it working. I have found NO solution to sync
directly between my phone and gmail (I use phone to outlook and
outlook to gmail sync ... which is definitely not ... direct !).
A great new feature would be to sync contacts as well.

I'm very interrested in that tool, and if it works on the F480, I'm
ready to advertise on the forums I use (I thikn the F480 is very
popular at least in UK and France).

Please, let me know what the result of your survey and end decision are

Regards
Jean-Marie

Hi Jean-Marie,

Can you the instructions provided in this link? http://forum.getjar.com/discussions/GetJar/Website/326/how_to_install_app_to_Samsung_SGH_f480_via_pc_and_where_is_the_Quick_Download_bar_in_the_wap.getjar.com_website/

Also, can you tell any free/open source app that works with your phone?

Yusuf,

I've been able few weeks ago to install the primosync application from
the .jar (can't remember the version though). From the wap (I use
http://davidpye.com/wap to do this) and I was able to launch the
client. But then, the cleint was able to connect to my gmail account,
read and display the calendars (I have more than one) but not sync
the events.

What kind of applications do I use and installed this way ? :
googlemap, gmail, eBuddy, MiniExcel, Bejeweled they are working.

Yusuf,

I made 2 tests today on my SAMSUNG SGH-F480 :

1- I reinstalled the "2.0.6 all other smartphones phone (signed) "
from primosync.mobi (I noticed www.primosync.com still shows 2.0.5
!!!! what is and where is the last version ?).

Here is the sequence I've done (took 2mn) :
- dowloaded the .jad (http://primosync.mobi/PrimoSync2_0_6.jad) and
got the url to the .jar from the file
- dowloaded the .jar
(http://primosync.googlecode.com/files/PrimoSync2_0_6.jar)
- uploaded the .jar on http://www.davidpye.com/index.php?page=freewap
- installed on my phone using internet (http://davidpye.com/wap/index.php)

Then I launched the application, entered my login information.

The application stayed stucked for 3mn on "downloading calendar list"
and then I got the error message : x Error Failed to get calendar
list : com.primosync.log.GcalException: Error at
com.primosync.cal.gcal.GCalClient.downloadFeeds: .IOException -
Unknown error 0 during socket::read
=>>> KO

2- I de-installed the 2.0.6 signed and installed the "2.0.6 all other
smartphones (unsigned) "

Here is the sequence I've done (took 2mn) :
- dowloaded the .jad
(http://primosync.mobi/PrimoSync2_0_6_unsigned.jad) and got the url to
the .jar from the file
- dowloaded the .jar
(http://primosync.googlecode.com/files/PrimoSync2_0_6_unsigned.jar)
- uploaded the .jar on http://www.davidpye.com/index.php?page=freewap
- installed on my phone using internet (http://davidpye.com/wap/index.php)

Then I launched the application, entered my login information.

The list of calendars have been successfully dowloaded and
displayed. I selected Sync and Reminders for my main calendar only (I
do have more than one calendar). Then Menu and Sync
Downloading events from ... then the phone asks for a permission
and I authorize it to continue (ask only once)
The preview is displayed :
Uploads : *none* while I do have at least one event that is in
my phone and not in my gcal (in less than 30 days).
Downloads : proposes 3 events that are already in my phone calendar !

So, in summary, the unsigned version 2.0.6 seems to work a little
better than the signed version, and some readings / exchange occur.
however, it seems to me that may be the application can't read or
interpret correctly the phone data ...

Hope this help ... I'm ready to continue testings, just let me know !

Regards
Jean-Marie

Played with it, but want to build my own. I've gotten a copy of the
source tree, but there are no 'current' build instructions. Any chance
you could update the exisitng set? and/or create a commented command
line capable ant build.xml?

Maintaining 3 way sync with local ical/vcal text files.

Go ahead and try to download the three events in your phone. The first time it runs it builds an association of event IDs in Google and your phone. So even though the events
are already in your phone and Google Calendar, the app should just sync fine and not create duplicate events.

About the unsigned jar that seems to work for you it is great. Previously, Samsung phones were the worst in allowing unsigned app to be allowed to run even with the user's permission.

Tim,

The build.xml works fine in Netbeans IDE. Not sure I understand your need in commenting the file.

About maintaining three way sync with local ical/vcal files, that's beyond the scope of this project. Of course,
you can always the sourcecode and build your custom hooks into it.

The main focus for this project is and has been  building an app that sync  smartphone calendars with Google Calendar.

full sync, I selected the three events and selected 'commit'.

a phone asked for a new authorization (write), I accepeted.

I then got the following message :

Saving ".... < name of event 1>" ... ERR
Saving "<name of event 2>" ... OK
Saving "<name of event 3>" ... OK

Then the application comes back to the sign in screen. I tried to sign
in again, but the application sayed stuck un "downloading calendar
list".

I exit the application, start it again (full sync). Still 3 events,
select, commit, authorization => same result (same messages and back
to sign in screen)

By commenting, i meant commenting the build xml or build properties.

The build.xml depends on your netbeans properties file:
----
/cygdrive/c/home/tim/src/primosync-read-only>ant
Buildfile: build.xml

pre-init:

pre-load-properties:

exists.config.active:

exists.netbeans.user:

exists.user.properties.file:
[echo] User properties file (user.properties.file) property is
not set. By specifying this property many properties required by the
project will be automatically evaluated (e.g.: libraries,
platforms, ...).

load-properties:

BUILD FAILED
c:\home\tim\src\primosync-read-only\nbproject\build-impl.xml:30:
Source resource does not exist: C:\Documents and Settings\Yusuf
\.netbeans\5.5.1\build.properties

jm,

It doesn't appear there is SDK for your type of phone yet. The Samsung's F480 OS is proprietary (it is not WM6 or S60 and I couldn't find what OS Platform this phone uses). I searched a SDK for Samsung F480/Tocco and came up empty. I was looking to see if there is any simulator software that can help me debug the app on the F480 but unfortunately it doesn't appear to exist.

At this point, I can't help you with your Google calendar sync issues until there is a SDK and simulator for your phone type.

yusuf,

clear ... :-(

regarding the platform, I don't know if it helps, but this phone is
known as being based on the "qualcomm" platform. I don't know if it
makes any good to find the software platform, but could give clues ...

I _try_ to use 2.06. After loggin in it try to download the calendar,
but nothing happens. This apply to both the signed and unsigned
version. I have downloaded the source and have had a look at it, but I
just started learning java a few weeks ago (have done C earlier) so it
will take some time before i understand what's going on.

1) Are you currently using primosync/gcalsync? If yes, what version?
How's it working for you?
I had used gcalsync 2.0.5 for bb os4.1, until it had difficult in
uploading event to google calendar(the problem i have described in
another post).
it worked fine for a long time。

2) What is your phone make, model, & carrier?
Balckberry 7290, China Unicom

3) What feature/bugs would you like to see addressed in the next
version?
I hope it will permit user selecting which calender to upload to in
the future version
support for Blackberry OS 4.1 and 7xxx series, which google sync tool
doest support.

Thank you for your great job
