I'm successfully using Prey on my Windows 7 box, but on an XP SP3 box I'm
getting a strange error. I operate in standalone mode. I'm hoping someone
can help.
When Prey runs, I get a dialog box with a title of "sendEmail.exe - Ordinal
Not Found", in the box is the message "The ordinal 2586 could not be located
in the dynamic link library LIBEAY32.dll"
I've searched my system, and I find 3 versions of this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\libeay32.dll, 651,264 Bytes, 8/31/2005
C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\bin\libeay32.dll, 947,200 Bytes, 10/1/2006
C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise
11\win32_x86\plugins\auth\secEnterprise, 638,976 Bytes, 7/26/2005
I think the path is set correctly so that the dll that should be used is the
one at C:\WINDOWS\system32.
I have attached the prey.log file. There are some sendEmail error messages
in it, but I think that these are caused by (happen after) the dialog box I
mentioned above.
The windows installation is current with all windows update patches.
I notice the following in the FAQ on the sendEmail site. It's not very
helpful.
Q: I'm using the Windows version of sendEmail, and I get the error message
"the ordinal 2586 could not be located in the dynamic link libraby
LIBEAY32.dll", what do I do?
A: I don't know why this happens, but you can fix it by downloading the "No
TLS Support" version of sendEmail. You won't be able to send email through
an SMTP server that requires encryption, but it won't give you that error
message.
I know the above is a big dump of information, and it seems to be a bug in
sendEmail instead of Prey, but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the
issue. I use gmail as the SMTP server so TLS encryption is necessary for
me.
