I used to have no problems downloading iOS updates but now it seems that the problem isn't going away, I usually have a 10-25 mbps internet connection and I download my games on Steam, Origin, PSN, etc in a couple of minutes.
I have also tried downloading IPSW files from a website where I used to get from when I previously worked as tech support and can't seem to download files from them as well, I checked and they use the same download server as Apple does.
Reconnect iPod to computer, put back into DFU mode. Wait for it to finish then click restore iPod. It will use the downloaded ipsw to restore. Works every time. I think the error is in the processing of the download at the same time it's trying to use it to restore. Because it isn't processed it can't use it so immediately it gives the error "9006"
I have this same problem. While I was traveling my iphone froze. When I finally got to an apple store, they restored it for me...it worked ok for about a week and froze again. Found a man with a computer that restored it for me...worked for a few days, froze again. Took to apple store in Barcelona, they tried to restore it, said it is basically dead and that I could either buy a refurbished one for like 200 bux that will probably not work soon because of software updates or buy a new model for as much as a car would cost. I said no thanks for both. When I finally got home, I tried to restore myself and got the 9006 error.... threw the stupid phone in a box (along with all the photos I now cant access from my trip) .... bought a samsung again because cant trust apple but after a few months just pulled my iphone 5 out again to see if i can salvage it because it takes better photos than my good camera... Still get the 9006 error. Keep in mind I have tried on numerous computers with numerous cables and with supposed experts (or are they just sales ppl?) at two different apple stores. Thanks for any ideas....
I started this download (8.4) on my phone this morning (selected "Download Only") and it got about half way before I had to go out. So I unplugged the phone and left. When I got back it showed *no errors* but it was still about halfway and the download time estimate had doubled from about 2 hours remaining to 4 hours. This is on a Win 7 PC by the way.
Plugged in again, and nothing changed. But then iTunes prompted to update *again* so I went through the same process, accepting the T&Cs and so on, and then watched as it tried again. Error: couldn't contact the server. But the original download status was still there.
Went into the progress bar window and clicked to "pause all" then once it had paused I clicked to "restart all". After a while it started downloading - *MUCH, MUCH* slower than before (estimated time to complete 23 hours+) but it made progress. Until a few tens of MB, then the above error.
It's utter ** that Apple cannot even provide resume support on a download that is 2GB in size. I tried this morning to update my Dad's iPhone to 9.1 it got to 987Mb of 2GB and then gave me error 9006.
1. Neither the cable nor USB port has anything to do with downloading software using iTunes, which connects from the computer to Apple's servers and stores the binary on the computer, *then* pushes it down to the mobile device
2. I doubt I have *ever* had an IOS update download first time, and rarely on the second attempt. Usually on the third it will work (without changing cord or USB port). You're not going to tell me this is not an Apple Server issue, when I continue to be able to download anything I like from any other site, with very few exceptions.
Just so you know it plays a significant part in downloading. I encounter this issue with customers on a daily basis. A large percent of thiserror has to do with the computer itself or the cord attached throw this unknown error in iTunes. Most cases we advise changing the cord or USB port. Or trying a different computer altogether. Cause it is not iTunes nor iOS device based.
Right, so basically my iPhone 6s plus had full memory storage, and my phone would restart itself, Id then go onto pictures and it would say 0 pictures, but with in 5-10 minutes they had restored back onto my photo library. Anyway, it did this again last night but didn't restore the pictures back, it just signed me out of icloud and wouldn't let me log back in on my phone, so I had no photos until I logged back into icloud. After trying & trying last night I finally called it a night and decided to sleep on it, and thought that my phone would surely allow me to log back in to icloud after having a night to load everything, well it didn't, so I held the menu and power button down at the same time, thinking all it would need was a re-boot, but now won't allow me to activate my phone, the message ''your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporary unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few minutes'' , & when I plug my phone into my laptop and load up iTunes, the message ''ITunes could not connect to this IPhone, an unknown error occurred (0xE8000015) .. Typical that today is new years day so there isn't anyone available on apple customer help line to help me resolve this issue, so I have been phoneless all day unable to answer new year wishes. Please can someone help. Thank you, Bekka x
Connect you phone to PC via USB and have iTunes open. Hold down the power button, the home button and the volume down button. When the apple logo appears, keep holding down the home button and the volume down button but release the power button. It should show 'connect to iTunes' screen. iTunes will now recognise your phone and put it into recovery mode where it cam update.
i have an ipad mini 4 that disabled its self after i updated, then asked me for my password to get in. after a few failed attempts, where it was only letting me try every hour or so, i came to this thread and tried what Zachiary said:
I had the same problem with my iPhone. The pictures disappeared, it was repeatedly requesting login information for Apple Id and iCloud, all my apps malfunctioning and exiting abruptly. I didn't have a backup on iCloud or iTunes, and iTune wasn't connecting. I tried a bunch of things but I think this is what finally helped. I looked at my phone storage Setting>General>Available and saw that I had only 135 MB available. I deleted a bunch of apps and I was able to get it to 2 GB. Then I restarted my phone and I saw that my pictures started popping up again. I still couldn't backup or connect to iCloud. I'm guessing the software got screwed up when there wasn't enough disk space. So I reloaded the software (as in Hard reset, DFU, recovery mode) and with an update not a restore and I was able to get the software sort of working again. I am now able to connect to iCloud and am in the process of backing up.
I did have success with mine. It appears that the operating system got stuck during an upgrade, so I removed the SIM card, backed up the whole phone, and wiped it. Then restored it from the backup and re-ran the updates. it took several hours but seems to be working fine now.
I have exactly the same problem as Bekka and doreen described now. Wifi wouldn't connect. Even changed the password to something super simple. Apple Mobile Device Manager shows USB correctly. Window file explorer shows my correct iPad name.
Tried resetting network settings. That helped me connect to Wifi. Now the error code in iTunes changed to 0xE800000A. After that, I still couldn't connect to Apple ID. No iPad in Itunes. (Really don't want to swipe the tablet and reinstall everything).
Tried a hard reset with sleep+home buttons. Wifi again wouldn't connect at first but then yes. Apple ID still unsuccessful. Suddenly iTunes sync started. Not sure whether via USB or Wifi. Guessing USB. iPad found on iTunes, but no name, no nothing, just iPad mini 2. Same thing on Windows files explorer.
The only thing that worked was to hold the power and volume button until apple logo and reboot, but I held my finger on the down volume button until it rebooted with the itunes and usb cable on the screen. Then itunes picked up the phone straight away without error and restored the phone successfully.
Yeah I'm having a similar issue, same error message on PC, on Mac it says "the value is missing" for the error message. My phone hit max memory, I started deleting apps and cleared up to 7gb a few days ago. Now it's down to a little under 5gb even though I haven't done anything. I cant see any of my photos or messages, apps crash and its super laggy. But i know my photos are still on there because they are still taking up storage on the device and i can see a thumbnail in the camera app but it still says zero photos. When I plugged it in my computer initially, it got deactivated like someone else mentioned but the apple store managed to update my software in recovery mode and that fixed the problem of not activating. Now its working again (well partly working, the alarm app doesnt work, I cant sign into icloud and it keeps saying my wifi password is wrong even though its not and my messages disappear after i send them) but I still cant access my photos. Two trips to the apple store, they said my user data is in a partition they cant access and only said to restore which I cant do because the last year of photos isnt backed up (the irony is my phone hit max memory while backing up to google photos which started this whole mess). I really want to access the photos there before i restore my phone, I have done a reset and network reset, tried downloading different file recovery apps but they dont recognize my phone or they just fail part way during the scan. I feel like I've tried everything and all the apple store can say is go to a 3rd party data recovery place and pay them over $1000 to recover it. There has to be a way to access it otherwise, I don't feel like android would have so many layers to make it hard for users to get their data or use their phone like a regular hard drive. If I don't recover my photos, I'm officially done with iphones... the quality has fallen off recently and this is just ridiculous.
