I'm having problems with random audio drops /popping with the new 2021 Apple TV 4k using the Netflix app and HBO Max app with Dolby Atmos shows. I had this with the original tvOS and now with tvOS 15.0. It is connected to a Denon X4400Hx. I tried a bunch of things with no success. Not sure if there is a hardware or software problem. At the beginning of the Matrix when the WB logo is coming up and there were small audio drops; I replicated this twice, but now it's working. Super annoyed and I'm worried about a pop blowing out a tweeter.

In my experience, I have found that any content featuring a Dolby Atmos track will produce this result to varying degree/severity, so you might consider a full switchover to TV apps to save yourself the juggling act and possible damage to your speakers. Or, if you are more enamored of your video quality of the ATV, then disable Atmos processing. I decided on the former option as I truly enjoy the Atmos experience and had need of the ATV to be used elsewhere in a non-Atmos setup.

In Netflix, I started watching The Adam Project yesterday and the soundbar repeatedly switched in and out of Atmos, causing sound to drop out every second i.e. audio for 1 second, no audio for 1 second, audio for 1 second, no audio for 1 second ... endlessly. This happened with any Atmos title in the Netflix app.

I had my Apple TV in a closed closet (only opening in the back) and it felt rather warm. When I installed the Netflix update I at the same time got The Apple TV out of the closet and it's now standing free and doesn't run warm. Since then no dropouts for several days now.

You are losing some of the audio effects that way but if you can't tell the difference and I don't think many can then that is a work around. I put a lot into the Atmos setup with 4 in ceiling speakers and can't really tell they do anything. :(

I think I finially fixed it. Both the cable from the TV to the receiver and the cable from the Apple TV to the receiver had to be replaced; just replacing the cable to the ATV with a super short high rated cable was not enough. All the previous cables were 18 Gbps and passed the HDMI checks for max bells and whistles but that was obviously not enough for Atmos (1080p and Atmos had problems too). I think the Gen2 ATV 4k is less tolerant than the ATV Gen1 for atmos as I did not have this problem until I 'upgraded'.

Okay, I may be misunderstanding the whole thing...First thing first, what was you guys's problem with NF app on ATV 4k, to begin with? I bought the ATV today & updated it to the latest software, I can see the Atmos label in the title description on NF via ATV, however, the surround & SQ doesn't feel like atmos. When I play the same title on my windows laptop NF app, it's far better sound & image. Also, the receiver app displays the audio input details (5.4 ch +atmos) better when played on windows app..

I was expecting a bump up in AV quality with ATV 4k, but it's been a disappointing first day. For cables, my ATV sits next to the receiver, I can get a 2 ft. wire. But the projector is about 8 ft away.

There's no problem with most Netflix programs, but when I watch "Drive to Survive", every minute or two, the audio glitches. It goes silent, and then there's something like an echo that gets faster and faster until finally, the sound re-synchronizes. Kind of a stuttering that gets faster and faster for about 5-10 seconds.

I understand that AppleTV does not have a "Passthrough" mode so my Denon can decode the streaming audio signal. Instead, AppleTV decodes the lossy Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 stream that Netflix sends to uncompressed PCM audio and then uses something called Dolby MAT 2.0 to send the Atmos metadata information. I suspect something is going wrong in that process, at least with Netflix. It mostly seems to fail when there is a lot of bass-heavy audio going on in "Drive to Survive", like the room-rattling racecar noises (vroom vroom).

I have this same exact problem with Netflix on my Applet TV 2. Some movies play with sound and others have no sound at all (video plays as if on mute). There's no rhyme or reason to which movies have sound and which ones don't. This just started happening recently, too, so maybe it's the most recent 4.3 software update? I tried restarting the device and nothing changed. If you figure out a solution please post!

I just did a full restore of the Apple TV 2 and it looks like the no sound issues have been fixed! All movies that were giving me issues are now working. @cyberpillz try going to Settings->General->Reset->Restore and see if your sound problems are fixed. Let us know!

I tried turning off the Dolby but it did not work. As I was about to reset I notice the "restart" option (Settings>General). It took about 5 minutes for the restart process to complete. Both netflixs and hbogo are now working. Hope this helps out.

Even better answer at least in iOS 7 on the Apple TV or the latest update is to change Dolby from ON to AUTO. I discovered this last night while testing the on off option discovered auto also exists and it worked fine on my little pony under Netflix which was giving no sound with the video for the blind user.

You sit on your sofa to watch a good TV show or movie on Netflix, only to discover that there is no audio coming from it. Before you start wondering if something is wrong with the show, movie, or television, you should know that Netflix does not output audio for various reasons.

Before checking for the possible causes affecting audio on Netflix, try restarting your TV to see if it fixes the issue. You might want to restart any external audio device like soundbars, speakers, or home theater systems.

If everything is fine on the hardware end, try restarting the Netflix app a couple of times to ensure everything is fine on Netflix's end. Additionally, try out a different movie or TV series to see if the problem exists on a particular title.

Also, you can visit the dedicated Netflix Help Center page to see if Netflix is down in your area. Alternatively, you can visit websites like Downdetector or IsItDownRightNow to find out if you're not the only one with audio issues.

If you're not having any problems with the video but aren't getting any audio, the problem is most likely with the device. It may sound strange, but try turning up the volume on your device. You may have previously turned your volume down and forgotten about it.

If you're using Netflix in a Mac or Windows browser, you should close all tabs or applications that may interfere with Netflix's audio. Also, if you use antivirus or malware software on your computer, try disabling it to see if it works. Furthermore, check for possible DRM issues on Netflix caused by Chrome Components.

Initially, restarting the Netflix app on your device may resolve the issue. If you're using an iOS device, you can reset the Netflix apps by going to Settings > Netflix and toggling the Reset option.

If the sound is choppy or stuttering, it's either due to a faulty device output or a flaw in the show or movie you're watching. You may encounter this issue on an Apple TV, Roku, or Smart TV, as well as a PC or smartphone.

If you can't hear the voice of the actors or the entire sound, it's probably because there's something wrong with one of your devices' audio settings. Try turning up the volume first to see if it solves the problem.

A Dolby Atmos or Surround Sound-enabled device may work if your internet is working fine; if not, the audio will sound distorted until the video and audio load in their complete quality. If you're new, you'll need to learn how Dolby Atmos works before setting it up in your home.

Furthermore, if you're using a headset or something similar, you may have to adjust its audio options to Linear PCM or Stereo. Look for any issues with the HDMI cable, and replace it if necessary. Also, look at your speaker's settings and adjust them accordingly if you find anything odd.

This problem is common on Windows PCs that rely on audio drivers to output audio. For the same reason, ensure your Windows PC has the proper audio drivers installed. If not, obtain the appropriate audio driver for your CPU configuration.

Check and fix the corrupt driver on Windows that's responsible for audio if you have the correct driver. To resolve this issue, simply update your audio driver on Windows. You may also need to update the IDT High Definition Audio Codec if necessary.

If you're having trouble with this on Roku, see if your receiving device supports Dolby Digital Plus to play audio in Dolby Surround. If it doesn't, go to Netflix and watch a TV show or movie, then go to Audio & Subtitles and check non 5.1 under Audio. It should resolve your problem.

Netflix allows you to watch some of its titles in 5.1 surround sound with a Dolby Digital Plus setup. Similarly, you can watch some content in Dolby Atmos with a supported audio device. However, you might not get the surround sound experience even after having supported devices.

If you're facing similar issues, you must first check whether the title you want to watch has the 5.1 or Dolby Atmos logo. You might have to troubleshoot your speakers, headphones, or earphones if you don't find the logos on other titles. But if you don't see the logos on a particular title, it doesn't have surround sound or Dolby Atmos.

You might not get surround sound even with the right devices sometimes. Suppose you're using Netflix in Chrome on a Windows PC; you might not get the surround sound experience since Google Chrome doesn't support it. You'll have to use either the Netflix app from Microsoft Store or open Netflix on the Microsoft Edge browser.
