Hello to eveyone,

I am having (mild) trouble with a WeBWork problem. Arrays do not render as they should unless one "activates" the WeBWork problem.

I also suspect these to be responsible for LaTeX building errors.

The source of the WeBWork problem is adapted from

Any advise?

JC

Your screenshots look like the intended behavior.  For the static preview which could appear in a print version, it just says what size the answer will be and saves vertical space, since students can't enter anything anyway in the static form.  What LaTeX build errors are you getting?

Chrissy is right on all counts and I only have a little to add.

There is a template in pretext-common that is "For a fillin (not in math) that describes itself as an array". And that is this situation. It makes one answer blank (which we see here as an underline) and then tries to clarify in parentheses the "shape" of the expected answer. It's the same template for a print PDF as for the static preview of the live HTML version. The intent is to not take up wasteful space on physical paper, and also not disrupt the spacing from one line to the next (in situations where this answer array might show up inside a sentence/paragraph).

It would be possible to make the HTML override that template, so that HTML static preview of this sort of array fillin did something different. But what really should it do? It looks like you are using the underline style fillin (the default) so should there be six underlines, stacked up? I think we'd want something better looking than that. And we have to keep in mind that the underline style is just one of three options. There's also boxed and shade.

Hello,

Thanks for your time, I see. I think it's not so bad at the end. Also I was able to fix some other erros I was getting, they were not related to what I originally pointed out.

Thanks again,

JC
