The latest version of the PreTeXt-CLI has just be released (version 2.36.0).  If you have any printout divisions, namely <worksheet> or <handout>, you will now see some new options in the Print Preview view:

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is the Print Preview view and how do I access it?  I can't find a reference to it in the documentation.  The description of the new options makes it sound as though it's something accessed in the browser, but I don't see any buttons in the web output that look like they would mean "Print Preview".

  1. If your exercises have hints/answers/solutions, you can now turn these off or on in the print preview.  Note that you might want to refresh the page after toggling these so the content reflows to the pages before printing.
  2. You can now print headers and footers, for the first page, the remaining pages, or both.  These can be edited in the browser (just click where you would expect on the left/center/right of the header/footer region).  What you put in those headers will persist across the entire book.  Hopefully useful if you want to always have a name region or the course name.
  3. As a publisher, you can set the default value for the headers and footers in the publication file.  Documentation will soon be available here: https://pretextbook.org/doc/guide/html/publication-file-common.html.

If you author a <worksheet> or a <handout> division, then in HTML they will automatically get a little printer icon by their title.  Clicking that will show a print preview that has these options.

Documentation is coming.  Hopefully soon.

Thank you very much for including this feature!

Is there a way to have the space taken up by the solutions preserved even after hiding? For example, in my blank version, I have spacing built in with workspace. My plan was to insert solutions to the same document so that students could choose to view the notes with or without solutions. The problem is that the spacing is very bad when showing solutions because of the space taken up by workspace. This often leads to things getting pushed off the bottom of the page. If I remove workspace entirely, then the document is very cramped when not showing solutions, so they are not very useful for displaying in class.

Any suggestions on how to better structure the handout? If I could get the solutions to take up the same space, whether they are displayed or not, then I could remove the workspaces.

Thanks!
Cuyler

Have you tried reloading the page after changing your show/hide settings?  I'm not saying it is ideal, but that should recompute the workspace to make things fit better.  I plan to make the reload happen automatically, but perhaps this is sufficient for now?
