Is anyone familiar with Namecheap and WordPress. I am trying to update the website for the annual editions of both AATA and The ODE Project. Since I only do this once a year, I always have to hunt around the Namecheap website to find the right menu. I finally found a list of flies that I can edit, but when I click on “edit,” I get the write screen of death. The Namecheap website is incredibly unhelpful.

Hi Tom,

I don't use WordPress, but when I need to update my site on Namecheap, I sign in, go to my "hosting list" and click the button that says, "Go to cpanel".    I then click on "File manager" in the "Files" section (3rd or 4th panel down).

Oscar.

I messaged a bit with Tom off-list. For WordPress, you don’t want to edit files directly. You need to go to put /wp-admin at the end of your URL and then log in. Tom is able to log in to WordPress and see his list of pages. When he clicks the edit link for one of the pages, however, he just gets a blank page. I’ve not run into this before, so I suggested that maybe his WordPress install is broken and he should check with NameCheap support, but if anyone else has encountered such a situation, hearing from you would be great!

This seems to be a major problem.  I spent an hour on chat yesterday with Namecheap support.  They couldn’t solve it, and I ran out of time (and patience).  I am getting fiber internet put in today.  Once that is working, I will try again.

@Oscar:  If you don’t use WordPress, do you just edit the file directly with Sublime or Emacs?

Well, VS Code, but yes.  Or I just make small edits in Namecheap's online editor.

But MItch is right, that a Wordpress site should be edited the way wordpress wants it to be.  I know that NameCheap has a way to update the Namecheap install, although I haven't tried this myself.

Whatever is wrong, I think that it is probably major.  I spent an hour the other day with NameCheap tech support, and they were unable to figure it out.  I had to log off because of company arriving.  To make matters worse, I am getting fiber Internet installed, and nothing in France moves quickly.  I will try chat support again tomorrow evening provided I have Internet.  I will let you know what happens.

Cheers,
Tom
