While less flashy than the VS Code setup, if there are any other Emacs users out there who would prefer to stick with their old favorite editor, I've written (with AI assistance) a pretext-mode for Emacs:
It uses mmm-mode to put math and figure code into an appropriate mode for LaTeX, Sage, etc. with relevant syntax highlighting, plus shortcut keys for inserting various tags, a table of contents for navigating and automatically inserting cross-references, and commands for running pretext, opening the result in a web browser, and reverse-searching from the browser to the source location. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome.
