Someonetold me he had Hirens boot CD on his flash drive and it was specially set up to use on a live windows system. Is there anything special one would do if the plan was to use it on a live windows system?

You can still run the hirens setup system on a live windows. Some of the programs does not work on the newer windows systems. Hirens boot cd has the files compressed with 7zip and they are temporarily decompressed to the harddrive when running.

Try burning the iso to a disc and try on the live windows. When you see proof of concept, then follow the tutorial for a flash drive.

I want to reset my windows 8 password through Hirens boot cd mini windows xp. It does not detect my hard drive so i can not find the SAM file.

How can i make it see my hard drive so i can fix this?

Unlike what a lot of other forums say, you actually have to go into your PC's bios settings and BOOT TO AHCI (RUN SATA AS AHCI MODE) to make Hirens see your computers C drive. (Confirmed works on Dell NVME m.2 drives)

From here, choose which account you want to change the password > Change the password > Then you need to do two things - Restart the PC but also change the bios back to whichever SATA option it was before and then restart back into Windows.

If nothing works out, you can just use the Ubuntu Live CD to backup your data to another partition and perform a clean install of Windows 8.1. Use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to download an ISO. Since you are locked out of your main computer which has the Windows 8 key, you can download it on another computer by using a Volume License key pertaining to the appropriate edition (Pro, Home, Single Language, etc). These are freely available on the internet.

Windows MBR boot process up to Windows 7 is only possible when the first block of the first partition has the boot files, since even if you do boot up from another partition the setup files won't be found(it looks for them in the first partition).

In general, multi-partitioned USB flash drives don't work well in Windows up to windows 7, that's why if you still wish to use the rest of the USB drive's space it must be present in the first partition, while the rest of the partitions cannot be accessed they are still accessible on boot when using GRUB2.

Both i386-pc and x86-64-efi targets are used so the USB drive will be detected in more systems(MBR and UEFI), but some systems will not detect it anyway(A BIOS update might be in order for a potential fix to that problem or it was that which caused it), using a USB V2,0 flash drive is also recommended for better compatibility(especially old systems).

NOTE: It's impossible to add any other partitions with Windows versions up to 7, the first partition must hold the setup files and it also must be your EFI and filesystem for them to work with systems which don't support multi-partitioned drives

You can obviously use more variables and improve the menu with all sorts of stuff.

NOTE: Make sure you choose the right menu entry for your boot method, if you use UEFI for a BIOS(MBR) or an BIOS(MBR) for a UEFI it obviously won't work

The best part is being capable of making it work anywhere and having the benefit of partitioning the device with GPT, just made a live multiboot with GRUB2 and updated my desktop setup to have it as well.

This is essentially made for older systems that can't boot GPT or have trouble with Hybrid setups yet still supports MBR and UEFI, I tested it on a netbook from 2005 and it booted properly.

The whole point is to have a multi-boot on a USB stick that can support most systems and still retain the ability to use the USB stick as normal(Access from OS's that don't support multi-partitioned drives), I didn't try the Hybrid MBR since it seemed way too much trouble and from what I see it won't allow you to install Windows 7 for example or for OSs that don't support multi-partitioned drives to detect the USB drive's filesystem.

I would advise against manually editing grub.cfg. instead, I additionally installed osprober and ran grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub.cfg (or wherever you're grub.cfg is located).

osprober auto detects any additional OSs and adds them to your grub.cfg

Basically i have a computer that is dual booted with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. On the windows 7 side I do not have admin control. However on the Ubuntu side I have full control. So I want to know how can I find out the Username and Password of a wifi that the windows side has saved. On the Ubuntu side i have free range over the Windows C drive

i had a bad smart virus today (i was about to cry) all my hard work in pd, i did not have a backup hard drive or a windows recovery disk because it was so damaged so i was tying to find and delete the virus on my on my linux , i could not find the two that was killing me, and so the virus changed my boot files so i could not login to linux ( more tears ) so i ran a scan from my brothers pc and noting still. I was a bit scared to try this hiren's boot cd (i was thanking the boot was fake software ) but it works for all most any problem you can run in to and it dose lots of task ect!
