Ilearned chords and wrote songs on my nylon string guitar. I sang the trauma out of my heart. I even had the courage make an album and give a concert at a bookstore in downtown Olympia. All my trauma survivor friends filled the front row. I belted out my fiery rage, tender grief, and finished with my new growing dignity. My friends jumped up and applauded because my story was their story.

A man, who came by himself, sat in the back row. When he bought my cassette tape he asked for my autograph. At first, I thought he was joking. Then I looked at his face. I instantly knew he had never told anyone about the sexual assault that he endured in his childhood, and I had just sat up front and sang my story in a microphone. He came to see it is possible to have a voice. I signed my name very slowly while I sent him kindness and a wish for him to have community of male survivors. He took the signed cassette in his hands and quietly walked away. It was the first moment I really began to understand my last name. I was to be of service by singing from my whole body so other people could feel their body.

That night we danced. One of the women leaders walked up to me and did a bear growl in my ear. My knees buckled, I wavered, I fought it, but then I fell to my knees, and then on the ground into a vision. I saw the ammonites (like nautilus) in the ancient ocean and I heard them singing to one another, singing to everything living in the primordial ocean. Then the land rose up and the ammonites became fossils and their songs to one another became embedded in the bedrock.

I know understood that this is the original source of the songs that moves through me. I began to cry that I have the honor to singing ocean songs that became part of the land. I opened my eyes after the vision ended to see that another one of the elder men had bent down on the ground with his ear right next to my mouth. He asked me to sing. I did and he nodded yes.

A decade later when I met John and we sang together, something very old moved through us. It was not about us, it was through us. It was a rich gift to sing with him. We became a couple and I jumped into parenting with him. Over the years, I became so out of balance trying to help what I saw as not well in the family system. Eventually, the push back against my efforts reached a pinnacle beyond repair. Relationships blew apart at their fragile seams. For my safety and wellness, I knew I had to go forward and be with people who welcome the love and health awareness I have to offer.

Yes! thank you for your bravery and your faithfulness, as well as your compassion and strength. I am singing with you, in my own way. Keep listening, letting the songs flow through you, finding the trail, one step, one song at a time. We ARE home.

Blown away, I live on the north side of Mount Shasta, and just found your story on YouTube and signed up for a medicine group last night. Only now I am reading that you actually are here or coming to Live here. What a beautiful connection. Feel so grateful for your story, and the loving strength I sense in you.

Thank you for asking Ellie, I just recorded in a studio and need to finish up and post to my web site (August 2022) In the future I will be getting together with musicians and making quality recording that can go on channels, so many creative projects! Just need the human time to bring them all to the earth and get created in a good way!

In the heart of the Motor City, a remarkable organization is harmonizing with the dreams of young girls, helping them find their voices through the power of music. Girls Rock Detroit, a nonprofit that empowers young women through music education and self-expression, is striking a chord that resonates with both participants and the community at large.

The heart of Girls Rock's mission is a weeklong camp, ending with a musical showcase. It's a transformative experience for girls ages 8 to 16, who come together to learn to play instruments, explore songwriting, stage presence and the importance of teamwork. On the day of the Girls Rock Detroit showcase, the hallways of Detroit Prep, an elementary school on Detroit's east side, were filled with vocal rock shrills, pounding drumbeats, rhythmic piano chords and guitar licks as the girls prepared for the big performance.

What sets Girls Rock Detroit apart is its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. The organization offers scholarships, to ensure that no girl is turned away because of financial barriers. For one night only on Nov. 5, Girls Rock is hosting a benefit showcase, Rock Roulette, at The Loving Touch in Ferndale. Featuring Hot Waxx Saloon, LAG, The Flow, Purple Crescendo and Full Bangs, the event aims to raise $10,000 to go toward student scholarships. This is the first time it has held the fundraiser since before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. Huguelet says she hopes to expand the summer camp locations and is looking for community spaces.

With each note, each lyric, and each beat, these young musicians are finding their voices and inspiring others to do the same. Through the transformative power of music, Girls Rock Detroit is fostering a generation of empowered young women who are ready to make their mark, both on and off the stage.

This project excited me as soon as I had the idea. I wanted to give my small children and piano students the gift of being able to play some of their favorite primary songs easily. I taught them three root notes of basic chords in the key of C Major (C F G). To help them to later be able to transpose into any key, I referred to the chords as I, IV, and V.

We also used these in home evening to add novice players on an auto harp, guitar, ukulele, hand bells, piano, and toy xylophone. Oh how the joy resonated in our family while we played and sang these beautiful songs together!
