Air University committed to fight against drug abuse

ISLAMABAD (June 27, 2021): Air University, in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day), has organized an awareness session to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a world free of drug abuse.

The event was opened with a highly influential documentary created by a brilliant team of Fazaia Medical College in collaboration with Air Media Club. The documentary depicted the adverse impact of drug addiction on the life of a young man and unacceptance of society for such person and eventually leading to death by suicide. 

Dr. Uzma Masroor, the President of Pakistan Association of Clinical Psychologist, Islamabad Chapter, in her keynote address, talked on different psychological effects of drugs and how to overcome the conditions of stress and anxiety. "Each year, individuals like yourself, entire communities, and various organizations all over the world join in on this global observance, to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent for society," said Dr Uzma, who is also Chair Department of Humanities, Education and Psychology, Air University and a certified trainer of Hypnosis, NGH-USA and NLP, NF-NLP, USA.

On the occasion, Air University Thespian Society presented a powerful & impressive mime performance on the influence of drugs and how they lead to a ruined life and also how someone can cure up from this cancer. The Air University Debating Society presented a set of speakers who presented a bilingual talk on the matter. They debated on this social evil and influenced the audience to know that drugs have very disturbing long term effects. 

The event was concluded with closing remarks by Fazaila Ali Qazi, Director Student Affairs in which she highlighted various steps for the awareness, monitoring, disciplinary procedures as well as the rehabilitative support such as psychological counseling, medical care, help line and anti-drugs team at university level being initiated through the visible commitment and support of Vice Chancellor Air University. 

"Air University stands strong with its commitment to a drug free and smoke free university and realizes the importance of this fatal abuse," the director said, adding that new policies are being developed for the eradication and prevention of smoke and drug usage, distribution & sales at campuses and many more, to ensure a drug and smoke free campus. 

The event was organized by Directorate of Student Affairs, Air University, with collaboration of AU Debating Society & AU Thespian Society. Apart from the main theme it was also an effort to spread awareness about drugs and their addiction. The event also included an oath taking ceremony by the staff and students to help fight the battle and challenges of drug abuse and rehabilitation in society.

ائیر یونیورسٹی انسداد منشیات کے خلاف جنگ کے لیے پُرعزم ہے، انسداد منشیات کے عالمی دن کی مناسبت سے آگاہی تقریب کا انعقاد، طلباء و طالبات کی کثیر تعداد کی شرکت

اسلام آباد (27جون2021ء) ائیر یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد نے انسداد منشیات کے عالمی دن کی مناسبت سے ایک آگاہی سیشن کا انعقاد کیا جسکامقصد منشیات سے پاک معاشرے کے قیام کیلئے باہمی تعاون اور مشترکہ عملی اقدامات کی ضرورت پر زور دینا تھا، تفصیلات کے مطابق تقریب کا آغاز فضائیہ میڈیکل کالج اور ائیر میڈیا کلب کے اشتراک سے بنائی گئی ایک ڈاکومینٹری سے کیا گیا، جس میں ایک ایسے نوجوان کی زندگی کی عکاسی کی گئی جو منشیات کا عادی ہو گیا تھا اور معاشرے نے اسکو قبول کرنے سے انکار کر دیا۔ ائیر یونیورسٹی کے ہیومنٹیز، ایجوکیشن اور سائیکالوجی ڈپارٹمنٹ کی سربراہ ڈاکٹر عظمیٰ مسرورنے منشیات کے استعمال کے نتیجے میں نفسیاتی و سماجی اثرات پر روشنی ڈالتے ہوئے کہا کہ ہر سال ہمارے اور آپ جیسے بہت سے افراد منشیات کے خلاف اس جنگ میں شامل ہوتے ہیں تاکہ وسیع پیمانے پر لوگوں کو منشیات کے اثرات کے بارے میں آگاہی دی جا سکے، ڈاکٹر عظمیٰ امریکن سرٹیفائیڈ ٹرینراور پاکستان ایسوسی ایشن آف کلینیکل سائکالوجسٹ کی صدر بھی ہیں۔ اس موقع پر ایئر یونیورسٹی تھیسپیئن سوسائٹی نے منشیات کے عادی نوجوان کی زندگی پر مبنی ایک متاثر کن میم پرفارمنس پیش کی کہ کس طرح اس نے منشیات کی موذی لت سے چھٹکارا حاصل کیا۔ ایئر یونیورسٹی ڈیبیٹنگ سوسائٹی نے منشیات کے اثرات پر انگریزی اور اردو زبان میں دلچسپ مناظرے اور مباحثے پیش کیے۔ ڈائریکٹرا سٹوڈنٹ افیئر فضائلہ علی قاضی نے تقریب کے اختتامی کلمات ادا کرتے ہوئے وائس چانسلر ایئر یونیورسٹی کی طرف سے منشیات کے خلاف جنگ میں مختلف اقدامات کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ معاشرے کو نشے کے ناسور سے پاک کرنے کے لیے نوجوانوں کو آگاہی فراہم کرنے کے ساتھ انکومثبت سرگرمیوں کیلئے متحرک کرنا بے حد ضروری ہے، انہوں نے بتایا کہ سٹوڈنٹ افیئر ڈیپارٹمنٹ نے ایک ہیلپ لائن قائم کی ہے جسکا مقصد نوجوانوں کی رہنمائی کے ساتھ ساتھ ان کو میڈیکل ٹریٹمنٹ دینا شامل ہے، انکا کہنا تھا کہ ائیر یونیورسٹی منشیات سے پاک معاشرے کی اہمیت اور ضرورت سے بخوبی آگاہ ہے اور اس کارِخیر کی انجام دہی کیلئے ہر ممکن قدم اٹھانے کیلئے  پُر عزم اور ہمہ وقت تیار ہے۔اس موقع پر ایئر یونیورسٹی کے طلباء و طالبات کی کثیر تعداد موجود تھی جنہوں نے نہایت انہماک سے آگاہی تقریب میں شرکت کی۔
