May All rest his soul in eternal peace. Barrister Bacha known as Bachaji was a great intellectual asset. He was known for using poetic references  during his arguments before the bench and in his speeches to the bar. Also he had a good skill  of contributing short and witty letters to the editor on hot issues for different  newspapers. He was a humble and down to earth gentleman. Bacha would always handily available for comments to Journalists on political and legal issues. I still remember one of his comment when we (journalists) approached him in PHC bar about the first speech of Gen.(r) Musharraf after staging a coupe against the then elected government in 1999. Bacha apprehended that to him Musharraf looked worst than Zia as the latter had at least promised to hold elections in 90 days in 1979. But Mushe even did not make a reference in his speech as to when he was going to hand over power back to civilians. And Bacha apprehension about Mushe proved right as he ruled the country for next eight years without  legitimate authority.
Bachaji  also actively participated in politics from PPP and ANP platforms. He was known for his independent views in the party. He was a good human being. And his death is a great loss to all of us. May Allah give courage to the bereaved family to bear this shock with patience.

Thanks and regards

May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace. Barrister Bacha was a loving personality and famous legal wizard both in the legal fraternity as well as among the journalist community. My relationship developed with late Bacha when he was appointed by the Supreme Court as amicus curie (Friend of court) in the Presidential Reference filed by President Asif Ali Zardari to revisit the case of murder of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Late Barrister Bacha always remained well prepared for his impressive arguments during the hearing. Reading my stories in The News regularly, he always encouraged me for my court reporting.                      Last month when I was coming to US, Bacha called me asking about the judgment of The Singh High Court Bar Judgment which  I mailed to him.               No doubt, Barristet Bacha was a friend of friends and the journalist community greatly admired him. Allah rest his soul in eternal peace Ameen.                   Sohail Khan, Delaware, USA

I am sorry to learn of Barrister Bacha's passing. I came to know of him through his letters to the editor. I met him first after I moved to Peshawar in July 1991 to join The Frontier Post as the assistant editor. May God bless his soul.

Lovely details. Thanks a million.

Baacha uncle was truly inspirational and a past master at Law. He was an orator par excellence and shot to prominence when as a very young student leader and the founding President of the Khyber Union at Islamia College Peshawar, he openly challenged General Ayub's dictatorial regime and somehow miraculously managed to make it to the stage and deliver a fiery speech revolving around the theme 'back to the barracks' right infront of the visiting Queen of England and her entourage to the sheer and utter dismay and embarrassment of General Ayub's cronies who failed to stop him from making it to the dice.

The great man was then whisked off to London under patronage of the British government which saved him the wrath of the all powerful General at the time. He then graduated from the Lincoln's Inn bar and could only return to his homeland once the martial law dust had settled. He was not only against dictatorships but anything and everything autocratic and strongly supported devolution of authority to the masses at grass roots; hence social empowerment. He simply abhorred dynastic politics and all acts initiated therefrom which would challenge and ridicule basic human intelligence and thought of the same as something that is beneath human dignity and grace.

More recently, in continuing with his Nationalist spirit, he bagged an emphatic victory against the Bank of Khyber's privatization bid by certain vested interests driven by big money rightfully claiming the bank to be an invaluable asset of the poor people of Pakhtunkhwa and a profit returning entity this province and its citizens could feel proud of.

Baacha uncle is survived by a very loving and a patient wife, a son who is a Pediatrician at Sheffield, England, and four daughters - all immensely proud of their late fathers achievements. It is indeed heart-wrenching to have lost him and his death now casts aspersions over the fate of a legacy he so steadfastly and boldly fought to build upon his entire life. With Barrister Baacha gone, the entire Pashtun diaspora, irrespective of any tribal affinities, has lost a true son of the soil. Please pray for him.
