Nusrat Javed sacked due to humiliating female journalists during India tour?

Dear all,

It is just learnt that Aaj TV management has taken bold step by terminating his anchor "Nusrat Javed" who was accused by Pakistani female journalists to harass them during India tour.

He had caused huge embarrassment for the SAFMA delegation accompanying him in India recently when he told an Indian audience that seeing the popularity of Hina Rabani Khar, Pakistan Foreign Minister, he had brought “three bachian (girls) like Hina from Pakistan so that we are also given the same importance here”. Recently reported by a news outlet.

The women journalists reportedly lodged a complain against him. On the other hand, the way he humiliated a responsible minister just because of her gender was disliked by everyone.

The harassment incident can be verified from PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan, SAFMA Punjab President Anjum Rashid and Lahore Press Club President Sarmad Bashir. The news source said.

Nusrat Javed, one of the senior most journalists and host of Bolta Pakistan at AAJ TV has been reportedly fired from AAJ TV and his program was taken off air after 10 minutes of airing.

Nusrat said that MQM threatened the owners or management of AAJ TV that if they want to guarantee safety of 600 employees, then Nusrat should be fired.

All Journalist Forums have a responsibility to immediately intervene in cases like these otherwise public would lose faith in vibrantly emerging Media  of our country at the very infancy stage.Its Credibility would be at stake before it could play the role expected of it. At times the Powerful Broadcasters and Publishers also play Scoundrel` s role. What the majority of us know is that Nusrat is a man of great integrity. The way he defended his case in a live program last evening makes it a duty of PFUJ and other Forums to immediately come forward and bring Facts on record before it is too late

We all know this is not true. MQM called the owners of AAJ tv and threatened their 600 employees. Nusrat Javed appeared on Hamid Mir's show and clarified the situation.

As per the ticker on air at Aaj TV. They did not fire Nusrat Javed. All of you can see their official statement at Aaj TV Now. MQM has no concerned with Nusrat Javed and his program. Something happened internally. Haider Abbas Rizvi on air offerred to go to management, if Nusrat Javed wants.

Second imprtant thing is, without knowing facts, on the basis of someone's whisper Nusrta Javed got emotional and passed remarks against our party leadership. This is totally immature, nonsense and seriously concern for all of Us.

Jawad you may be right, that Nusrat Javed got fired due to allegation of misbehaving with female journalists during india tour, but what was the hurry when he got sacked while he was on air, i saw his 10minutes program last night , the way he was criticising altaf hussain, that was not like an ethical journalist, he was very much over reacting probably drunk. a journalist should behave like a impartial like hamid mir and abdul malik was last night in capital talk special. No one is perfect. We all have personal problems and weakness. Knowing Nusrat well from my life in Exile, when he was also living in London.  I know he is capable of being extremely gender insensitive.  However, I also know that he is a good analyst and a professional journalist. He came under pressure while performing his professional duties, therefore we need to stand behind him and extent him unconditional support. Remember this is not an issue of one individual rather it is  a matter of resisting the culture of blackmailing in the media industry. We must stop that happening by supporting Nusrat in the larger interest of the independence of media.

However, this does not mean that women journalists who are genuinely hurt and upset by his sexist remarks should not settle the matter with him. But in my opinion both matters should be handled separately. I would like to suggest to Nusrat that he should simply apologize to his colleagues to rest the matter.

It seems Nusrat Javed is just trying to exploit the situation against MQM as well as to blackmail his tv owners who want to initiate inquiry against his misconduct with female colleagues. If he is not liar, he should tell the name of MQM worker who threatened his tv owners? Even if he is true in his claim then what was the need to announce it on a rival TV channel to give bad name to AAJ TV channel or it was a planed attempt to switch the TV channel?

In the past, he left the same "Aaj" channel along with his colleague just for a better salary package and when latter both were fired from the Dunya TV disgracefully. It was Aaj TV who welcomed them back with open heart. Do any of you think he was also terminated from Dunya TV due to MQM pressure?

I saw a ticker on Aaj TV says he is not terminated but I think now after his appearance on competitor tv channel and allegations on the organization for which he supposed to serve, AAJ TV management should now take immediate disciplinary action against him. If he is not sacked yet then he should be fired now because of appearing on GEO TV.

On the other hand, MQM should invite him to come and let him do live show outside 90 with a condition to also invite Aitzaz Ahsan, Anjum Rashid and Lahore Press Club President Sarmad Bashir to discuss his attitude with the female colleagues during India visit which is the main cause behind this termination drama. We, being unbiased journalists, must be careful to support such characterless anchors who openly calls and considers noble profession of journalism as "GANDA KAAM (Dirty work)". We should seek apology from him on his statements and baseless allegations.

PS: I am not MQM supporter but I don't see any truth in the Nusrat Javed allegations against MQM and Aaj TV owners.

Mr. Nusrat Javed was drunk when he started his programe. Thats why, his show was halted. My friend working in Aaj Tv told me. He was also heavily drunk when talking with Hamid Mir. He is senior journalist but he has no license to misbehave. He is not fired from AAJ TV, he is still on the pay roll of AAJ. Kindly read out the ticker of AAJ TV. We should get rid of these "drunk" analysts now. In this discussion I remembered an interesting happening with me while I was working with Aaj TV as senior political correspondent at Lahore, I was invited to Karachi on the return of Mohtaarma Benazir Bhutto from exile to participate in live coverage and programs at the occasion. At that day live program started with Nusrat Javed, he delivered some ant-shunt facts and I argued as per my information. After 15 to 20 minutes transmission there was a break of about 10 to 15 minutes, when I came back, I was surprised that my chair was removed from the set without telling or giving any reason. Its his journalistic approach and behavior, unable to listen counter arguments. In that show Bolta Pakistan, without fear of contradiction, his behavior was not like a journalist or analyst, may be he was drunk as usual. And it was justified to stop that bull shit, Mushtaq Minhas was also embarrassed,
Ya Samina's argument is true, he is trying to blackmail the Aaj administration and trying to become a shaheed. Aaj Administration is totally under pressure. Aaj Owners just blackmail those employees who do not threat or blackmail them, they terminate and refuse to pay dues of that employees who work professionally. Poor Zuberis are lion for gentlemen and this lion becomes a sheep when they face some rascals.
In this situation where is commander safeguard who initiated inquiry after my resignation and refused to even pay my salary of two months on the instruction of Zuberees. Director H R commander safeguard is starting any inquiry now against Nusrat Javed???

Before issuing statements on baseless allegations, please bother to know version of AAJ TV. Haider Abbas Rizvi of MQM also said no one from his party pressurized AAJ TV to sack Nusrat Javed.

Nusrat Javed was drunk and still he is afraid for an internal inquiry against him. May be, he is trying to join GEO TV now.

If "Bolta Pakistan", as per your statement, is voice of "HAQ O SACH", then please ask Nusrat Javed why he tried to silence this voice earlier to start "DUNYA MERE AAGEY" on another TV channel. Never never trust a drunk person, no matter how senior or professional he is.

To suddenly cut off a programme after 15-20 minutes of airing what is meant to be an hour-lomg show, demonstrates that AAJ TV's action had very much to do with undue outside pressure. No management will do such a thing unless they feel they have no choice. Mr. Nusrat Javed is a respected senior journalist of Pakistan. He is one of the leading figures who took on the Musharraf regime in 2007. There is no proof that Mr. Nusrat Javed was drunk during 'Bolta Pakistan' and I heard him myself in the Hamid Mir show and I did not even for a second think that he was drunk then.

We should refrain from slinging mud on senior journalists of Pakistan for our own political motivations.

Dear all, Some one from the AAJ TV has sent following with a request to not disclose his name. If it is authentic then at least it proved my point that Nusrat Javed tried to blackmail his TV channel and in real neither he was sacked nor there was any threat from MQM. The statement also mentioned a female journalist/politician. I think Mr. Mushtaq Minhas, co-host of Bolta Pakistan can confirm or deny the below statement. Thanks.

Nusrat saab was pissed off the moment he walked on set. He was mad that Altaf Hussain�s press conference had been given such coverage and especially because the media have had to wait so long from Altaf Hussain to show up. The level of crazy hit fever pitch when the program started; it came to the point that just before the commercial break, Nusrat saab had started singing and dancing ridiculing Altaf Hussain. You must've seen it by now on Youtube if not live.

During the break Mushtaq bhai asked Nusrat saab to take it down a notch and make logical arguments. His point was clear that in order to criticize Altaf Hussain at this moment we have no need to resort to clownish antics and we just need to talk sense. But Nusrat saab was having none of it. He�d made up his mind that any instructions he was being given from any quarters at this point were due to Muttahida�s pressure. I have a lot of respect for him but the man has a humongous martyr complex. Also, he was probably a little intoxicated, which wouldn�t have been anything new. He�s shown up to recordings drunk many a times before. I don�t have any problem with that per se but when it starts having a negative impact on the show, that�s just not professional. There�s a female politician/journalist who�s in fact requested us never to put her through on the show anymore if Nusrat saab is drunk.

So, in his rage, or drunken stupor, Nusrat saab kept getting more and more infuriated with the director and Mushtaq bhai as they tried to talk some sense into him. At one point he was told that he ought to worry about the lives of the six hundred people working at Karachi bureau, but I don�t think there was any real threat; it was brought up as just another argument in trying to convince Nusrat saab and at no point did I see anyone receiving any calls from anywhere.

The argument escalated and the director decided not to go back on air unless Nusrat saab gets a hold of himself. Nusrat saab took it as though the program had been banned and walked off. Between then and calling in on Capital Talk, Nusrat saab had had himself �sacked� in his drunken, enraged imagination.

On  friday almost every news channel conducted their talk shows and each one carried the critical round up on the address of Altaf Hussain during their transmissions , why only Nusrat Javed being sacked? and on the program of Hamid Mir he just said technical reason but there he also blame  MQM , as I saw in the ticker,AAJ tv mentioned about the false status of his statement. If every body doing the same thing why this is not happened with other anchor persons? it should be some disciplinary issue with the management and along with all previous existing personal allegations management took a hard step simple as that ,after such insult he has to deliver some solid explanatory or you can say noble excuse that why he has been sacked.

Ok so what you are saying is that it is fine to ridicule Zardari or Nawaz Sharif or any of our other leaders but God forbid if you try to ridicule Altaf Hussain you have just committed blasphemy.

Mr. Altaf Hussain can dance and sing with the Quran in one hand but if Nusrat Javed does so he is asked to "take it down a notch". If this isn't censorship then I don't know what is.

Mr. Nusrat Javed was drunk when he started his programe. Thats why, his sho= w was=20 halted. My friend working in Aaj Tv told me. He was also heavily drunk when= =20 talking with Hamid Mir. He is senior journalist but he has no license to=20 misbehave. He is not fired from AAJ TV, he is still on the pay roll of AAJ.= =20 Kindly read out the ticker of AAJ TV. As far as Mr. Imtiaz Alam is concern = every=20 body know very well that from where he is getting money and for what purpos= e.

Instead of supporting him blindly, journalists and journalist bodies must= =20 discourage him for calling journalism as "Dirty Work"

On the other hand, MQM should invite him to come and let him do live show= =20 outside 90 with a condition to also invite Aitzaz Ahsan, Anjum Rashid and L= ahore=20 Press Club President Sarmad Bashir to discuss his attitude with the female= =20 colleagues during India visit which is the main cause behind this terminati= on=20 drama. We, being unbiased journalists, must be careful to support such=20 characterless anchors who openly calls and considers noble profession of=20 journalism as "GANDA KAAM (Dirty work)". We should seek apology f= rom him on his=20 statements and baseless allegations.
PS: I am not MQM supporter but I don't see any truth in the Nusrat Jave= d=20 allegations against MQM and Aaj TV owners.

Mr. Nusrat Javed is a respected senior journalist of Pakistan. He is one of the leading figures who took on the Musharraf regime in 2007. There is no proof that Mr. Nusrat Javed was drunk during 'Bolta Pakistan' and I heard him myself in the Hamid Mir show and I did not even for a second think that he was drunk then.

We should refrain from slinging mud on senior journalists of Pakistan for our own political motivations.

If someone unknown "requested" his name not be disclosed, his claim is worth nothing and proves nothing. Anchors are hardly in a position to blackmail their employers as the track record over the past years have shown. Nusrat Javed looked justifiably annoyed -- just as tens of thousands of viewers as well as other media persons were outraged by the disgusting behaviour televised from UK. Threats and acts of violence towards media organizations and media persons is nothing new. It has been going on for over 25 years.

I am surprised to read series  of communication on was Nusrat drunk or otherwise without any comment on the substance i.e what he said that day and preceding days was journalistically correct or not; and should media house succumb to such political pressures

 Nustrat Javed has given his life to journalism and is known for his work ethics, credibility and integrity. The debate is 'keeping media houses ransom for political reasons' which is not new in Pakistan. Its interesting to note that  in the times of enlightened and free media, when a senior and world renowned journalist says "enough", his own tribe  brings him down by making him a personality disorder issue or the easiest in Pakistan to burn him down on high religio-moral grounds - he was drunk !!!!

These comments are made by either new entrants and/or pseudonym persons who should be following Nusrat as a living academy as currently they don't even care to read their email before sending as its full of english and grammatical errors besides many being written in roman URDU - speaks volume of their ability to criticize a seniors intellect

Whatever is written below may be correct as case of misunderstanding but look at what we are doing here 'issuing indictments and judgements - Nusrat is drunk, he is angry man and conveniently discussion is taken over by zealous rightist mindset rather than a journalistic eye that scans the radar for diverse and pluralistic opinions and should be taking it as an attempt to silence a courageous and long standing voice.

Please listen to voice of reason and read writing on wall and stop legitimizing people under religious injunctions and remember that all great and virtuous people in the universe were not  muslims

Karachi-based news channels often get threats, sometimes even violence, to force them to distort their editorial judgments. There may be no solution in the near future. 

If a channel is not strong enough to deal with threats or hit back with harsher coverage, it may consider one of the two options:

a) Switch over to entertainment Survival for news channels is becoming difficult in any case. Instead of closure or merger, entertainment may be a better choice. There it will be quite possible to create a niche.

b) Shift from Karachi Conditions in other cities are more hospitable, though occasional slogan-raising occurs there too. Nothing more serious. Keep only a bureau in Karachi, with a studio for interviews. Marketing people in Karachi can do a good job even without a head office.
