Best Friend Forever, developed by Starcolt and published by Alliance, is a flirtatious ride where you explore a town called Rainbow Bay as a new resident and decide to adopt a dog because, surprise, every single person nearby has one. Rainbow Bay seems like a West Coast town with a lively neighborhood filled with singles and their four-legged friends who bring the town to life. Not only do you train your dog throughout the game, but you also bring them along on dates and meet-ups with 6 dateable characters.
As far as inclusivity goes, I felt all the characters were interesting and diverse, except for Felix, the white cis male who I did end up having a bit of a crush on (maybe it was the fact that he worked in a library). The most noticeable feature I had an issue with from the get-go was not being able to create your character, you are instead only given 3 options of the main character to pick from. One is very feminine, with shoulder-length pink hair, blushed face, the next is still very feminine but this option is plus size and has a half-shaved head, and the third is the more masculine option with short cut pink hair and a really cool letterman jacket. Building a system that is LGBTQ+ friendly in the dating space is stellar, but not being able to make it more you is the issue I have. A small feat to celebrate here is that you are given the option to pick your pronouns when you make your Woofr (the in-game dating app) profile. With the number of differences of people in the world, making someone pick between a few generalized options is not progressive.
Peanut was my best friend for a short time. My family moved to Milwaukee two years after Head Start, and I never saw Peanut again. But I had the opportunity to make new friends. My brother, Greg, and I got to know the neighborhood children. We played together, but the friendships were only on a surface level.
As a medical practitioner, Siriwankulthon usually includes her medical knowledge into her writing giving her characters and storylines a realistic perspective and depth not found in other works. As a fan of her other projects, I was excited to see another one of her masterpieces be produced by a studio that provides top-quality production.
The actual story of the series starts with six of the eight friends back in high school entering a film competition. Their lack of good ideas and screenwriting skills leads them to seek out the help of another student named Non, played by Barcode Tinnasit Isarapongporn.
Aside from Jin, the other five friends take advantage and terrorize Non on a day-to-day basis. From overworking him to blaming him for stuff he did not do to roping him into a money laundering scheme, Non is a victim of a bunch of manipulators.
Using a hallucinogenic drug, Tan makes the friends believe they are cursed for their past and manipulates them to kill each other. Knowing that Siriwankulthon is a doctor, the probable reality behind his actions makes the entire plot point so much better.
Aside from the performances, the production was spectacular, from the cinematography to the staging to the editing, especially towards the end of the series. Lighting and special effects immersed the viewer into the scene where the characters are drugged and hallucinating, almost as if they had taken the drug themselves.
The series is not your typical horror story. While murder and gore are aspects of the show to look forward to, the real horror is the actions of a horrible group of individuals and the result of said actions.

I met my best friend at summer camp, and indeed, summer camp is the reason our friendship is still alive today. The story goes like this: she was on the top bunk, and I was on the bed beneath hers. Maya forgot to bring a pillow and even though another girl in our cabin had brought two pillows and offered her extra one to anyone who wanted it, Maya was too shy to say anything. Our moms tell us we were 8 and 10 that first year at Camp Cedar Glen.
Sure, Maya and I did some major bonding over the monster hill we had to walk up every morning, and while listening to the wolves yip in the evenings. But as all dedicated camp professionals know, camp is more than just a location. And because camp is not just a mere place, the friendships made at camp are not bound to it. It is my hope, regardless of how different this summer may or may not have looked for campers, is that they still find a way to be in connection with one another. As a summer camp professional, I feel it is my responsibility to help campers make those connections. As a nod to Maya, all of our campers will be receiving Camp Cedar Glen postcards that they can use to catch up with one another.
Times have changed but friends and friendship related troubles are still the same. Many children in their tweens or even as teenagers go through a difficult time emotionally when one of their best friends or BFF starts behaving differently.
Pari holds Amber (who is actually a good girl) responsible for this change of circumstance and and feels cheated by Aditi (who likes Amber and is good friends with her but is not purposely trying to hurt Pari and is unaware of her emotional turmoil). Though Pari never directly confronts Aditi or Amber, her emotional turmoil is quite evident in her behavior and work. Her friendship problem is having a spillover affect on her school related work too.
This is not the end of problems for Pari. Besides the emotional turmoil that Pari is going through, she has to deal with Vishnu, (her annoying class and project partner). Also at home she has an elder sister who keeps nettling her.
After reading this book my daughter has learnt that being possessive in friendship is natural, but being over possessive is what creates trouble. Understanding and giving everyone their space in a relationship is very important.
Moving to a new city is always hard, unless of course, you move to Rainbow Bay, the town with the highest dog to human ratio. In Best Friend Forever, you find yourself in that exact scenario; ready to start a new life in this friendliest of dog-friendly cities.
As you start to grow a companionship with your dog, you begin to explore the city and meet a wide cast of people of all races, sexualities and genders, making for a fairly diverse game. You can interact with the NPCs, and eventually go on dates, before finally choosing who you would like to date, officially. The artwork is full of clean cut lines, and gorgeous scenery; the city looks vibrant, cultured and wild. Every potential love interest has a unique personality with specific interests, as do their dogs. A lot of work has gone into this game to develop and flesh out this diverse range of characters.

At the tail end of grade school, I met the girl who would be my best friend well into my 20s. She was carefree, obsessed with bands no one really listened to, and had a funky fashion sense. She was everything I wanted to become with puberty just around the corner. The foundation of our friendship was simple: she was confident and appeared to know exactly what she wanted, whether deciding on clothes or boys or lattes.
Two months into the trip, I met Saulius on the shores of Lake Baikal. It was sleeting, and my team spotted a ribbon of smoke in the forest and wheeled off the road to a campfire, around which huddled six Lithuanian cyclists. We shook hands, and they shared their meager food and pushed our shivering bodies toward the warmth of the birch fire. We were kin, members of the fellowship of the wheel.
Deportations of Lithuanians began immediately after the Soviet Union occupied the country, in the summer of 1940. Between 1940 and 1953, Stalin sent some 350,000 Lithuanians to Siberia. Many never returned.
Nine years later, on April 24, 1957, Palmira and her family were released and allowed to leave. Their stone farmhouse had been seized by the government and was now the residence of a Soviet oligarch, so they lived with friends in Kaunas, a small city in central Lithuania.
By the time we dipped our front tires into the ice-blue Baltic, fall had come to Russia. It was snowing and we were so exhausted we could have slept for a year. Instead we threw a party, each of us inviting someone who had meant something special to us during our ride. I invited Saulius. We sang hard and drank hard and danced hard as if it were our last night on this earth. It was the end of 1989, and the Soviet Union was imploding.
THAT WAS THE LAST time I saw Saulius, but I wrote about him in a book about that trip, Off the Map. Now, remembering our friendship, I pulled it from the shelf and read the opening passage about Saulius:
