I use Affinity extensivly and have no issues. You need to make sure that you only have one version of Sharpen AI and DeNoise AI installed, the latest, then have the following settings in Photoshop Plugins:
I just tried using sharpen AI in Affinity Photo and it opened the old version. I then deleted the old version and mad sure AP was pointing to the correct directory for Sharpen 2 and still nothing. I also ran SAI 2 as a stand alone but that did not fix the problem. Something is wrong with the install.
I found a fix for this issue. Affinity Photo will auto detect a plugin if it is in the C:ProgramData/affinity/Photo/Plugins directory. Just add a folder called Topaz and then drag a copy of the .*8bf file into it.
For Windows 10 X64 the file is tltopazsharpenaips_x64.8bf and is found in the PS_PluginsX64 folder under Topaz Sharpen AI (be sure its the new version).

Don, I found the problem. After un-installing the older version of Sharpen AI which was located under the Program files >Topaz folder, it left the *.8bf file. The new version was installed under Topaz LLC. Affinity Photo would see the old file version first and not use the new one. Deleting Sharpen AI folder under the older Topaz heading allows Affinity to work correctly if it is pointed to the new Topaz LLC directory. If someone has copied the *8bf file into the Program Data folder as I showed as a fix, they should delete that as well.
I have an issue on my iMac!
Why is the update not installed on the same location?
Never encountered such a amateurish approach of updating a application.
Even this is a problem for Topaz! Every other software company get this right!
Photoshop not listing Topaz Photo AI as a plugin and can only access it through Stand alone.
With each new update this changes, seems random, sometimes it is there other times not there. Photoshop is closed when downloading the update and the computer is restarted.
Also, through the Stand Alone Photoshop Bit depth is 16 bits rather than 8 bits as with the Plug In.
Windows 11
Thanks
Thanks Very Much! I was beginning to doubt my sanity on this issue! Again, WORKING as a Filter plugin: Denoise AI and Sharpen AI; working through Automate: Gigapixel AI. And NOT working as a Filter plugin: Photo AI and Mask AI.
FWIW, I started with one of the first pro digicams, when noise and sharpness - among other issues - were big issues.
(Dynamic range was awful, and under-exposing to avoid blown highlights was essential, but that meant noisy shadows.)
So I believe I appreciate the great work Topaz is doing more than most.
Just purchased a new iMac and a AP and AD license and try to find the plugins I have (all Topaz Labs) to connect in Affinity Photo. I'm used to use them in Windows 10 so I wonder where do I find the plugin folder of the Topaz plugins on my iMac? I manage to find the Topaz folder, but when I look inside there is no plugins folder.
In your /Users/username/Library/Application Support folder there is a Topaz Labs folder. This contains an empty Plug-ins folder, I am guessing that is where the plug ins might be found (if they existed).
NOTE: The plug-in is installed properly and does start inside Affinity Photo. However, it does not actually make any corrections or adjustments at all. Sharpen AI works as expected when in stand-alone mode. Thanks for any advice.
I did ALL of that. I'm fairly experienced with Affinity Photo, which is why this one has puzzled me. I completely uninstalled Sharpen AI again, and removed its plug-in from the Photoshop/Plug-ins folder. I then reinstalled it again.
Honestly, Affinity Photo rarely suffers any problems whatsoever. But I know that quite a number of Photoshop plug-ins have historically been problematic with Affinity Photo, so perhaps I was simply due to experience these issues for myself.
You will only notice the effect when you do a extreem zoom in in Affinity Photo and click the effect-layer on and off... Beware that it are very subtle differences you see, but it should work and you should see it.
That hasn't quite been my experience with it. When it's working stand-alone (and when it was working previously), the effect can be very obvious for Sharpen / Stabilize / and Focus algorithms, whether zoomed in or not.
I'll preface this by saying I have had Topaz support actually try to solve this problem by accessing my Mac and they were unable to find a solution. Topaz recently introduced for beta testing a new product that combines several Topaz products into one, called PhotoAI. I have installed it and updated it, removed it completely and reinstalled multiple times. The program shows up in the filters section with all the other Topaz products but when clicking it, nothing happens. Ordinarily when invoking a Topaz plugin, a dialog box opens; it does not in this situation. All of the other Topaz plugins work perfectly as a plugin...except for this one. I have manually removed and reinstalled the plugin in the PS plugin section. The surprising thing is the program works perfectly as a plugin in LRC. So far the only thing I haven't done is completely remove PS 23.5.0, which I'd rather not do if anyone has any alternative suggestions. I am running Monterey 12.5.1.
Here's the problem....it works for most everyone else in PS. There have certainly been issues with it, especially for people that don't have the recommended hardware, but otherwise I seem to be one of very few that have this specific problem.
I finally got it working. It hasn't been working for weeks. I have tried everything. Uninstalling Photoshop, reinstalling Topaz Photo AI. Topaz support had me manually install the plugin. Nothing worked.
Yesterday I double checked and it wasn't working. I checked because I had a support call scheduled with their support. This morning there was an auto update on my Mac. In installed "Command Line Tools beta 3 for Xcode" to version 14.1 and everything started magically working. Of course this happened the day that I had a support call scheduled. I checked the log files on my machine and that's the only thing that was installed since yesterday. Not sure if that helps you, but hopefully it does.
I believe that was installed on my machine months ago as some sort of needed software for some python programming I was doing for a data analysis project. Hope it helps and solves your problem. Teh person from Topaz told me that he has only seen the problem a few times.
After two more updates, removing everything and reinstalling, still will not work as a plug-in in PS only; no Topaz dialog box opening at all, works fine in LRC. Anyone had any success with this particular issue? Has to be something somewhere....Topaz has remoted into my computer and still can't find the problem.
Did you ever receive a solution to this problem? I'm having the same issue on a new Macbook Pro running the latest version of Photoshop. As a last resort, I even uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop. It works fine on an older IMac running the latest version of Photoshop.
I would go back and talk with Topaz. Adobe is not going to "fix" Photoshop to run with third party plugins. The responsibility is with Topaz to ensure their plugins are updated to work with the latest PS builds.
"It works for most everyone else" doesn't mean much when each persons configurations are different. It could be a conflict with another plugin or peripheral that you may have and it varies from user to user. Just because people aren't posting on the Adobe forum, doesnt mean they arent't contacting Topaz support regarding this beta.
Still unable to get this working. I've uninstalled PhotoAI and PS. I asked PS to not save prior settings when I uninstalled it, and removed all traces of PhotoAI. I then reinstalled PS, and it still shows a filter for Photo AI (and all the other Topaz products, but they all open and work). I just have a feeling that if I could remove that filter notification in PS and then reinstall PhotoAI again it might solve the problem. I've looked through a whole lot of folders in PS but can't find any way to clear the list of filters. And has anyone else figured out this problem? It must be pretty rare. And the most bizarre thing is that it works completely normally in LRC and as a stand-alone.
@grassflats2 The fact that Topaz remoted in to your machine and still couldn't figure this out worries me about their product. Did you check your applications folder for a Topaz Labs folder with an uninstall pkg? Mine always installed there and had an uninstall app to remove.
The more recent Topaz apps have been deposited directly into the Applications folder; no separate Topaz Labs folder as in the past. And there don't appear to be specific uninstall programs for the more recent programs, including PhotoAI. Given the number of people that are using it, there are very very few that are having my specific problem. That's what's so confusing.
Here's what I see in the PS plugin folder. Folders for Denoise and Sharpen, each with a plugin. The plugin for PhotoAI is installed with no folder but directly into the Plugin folder. I've tried creating a folder and copying the plugin to the new PhotoAI folder, but that doesn't do anything.
Essentially, no matter what I do, uninstalling both programs at once, and reinstalling them, removing PhotoAI alone and making sure there is no part of it left, it still shows up in the filter options, and it won't open. I just think if I could remove it from the filter options and then reinstall it, it might work....but I have no idea how to do that.
