Torrentzwas a Finland-based metasearch engine for BitTorrent, run by an individual known as Flippy[2] and founded on 24 July 2003.[3] It indexed torrents from various major torrent websites and offered compilations of various trackers per torrent that were not necessarily present in the default .torrent file, so that when a tracker was down, other trackers could do the work. It was the second most popular torrent website in 2012.[4]
To perform a search, users would simply type in a string of keywords within the autocomplete-enabled search field and execute the search by either pressing the search button in the UI or the enter key on the keyboard. From there, a list of matching torrent files were displayed on the screen for the user to choose from. This list could be filtered by size, age (one day, three days, one week or one month) and by "safety & quality" ("any", "good" or "verified").[citation needed] The "good" filter was applied by default, and "verified" was reserved for torrents uploaded by well-known groups.[5]
Selecting a torrent from the search results list would take the user to another page listing the websites currently hosting the specified torrent (with which users would download files). As Torrentz used meta-search engines, users would be redirected to other torrent sites to download content (commonly KickassTorrents, which was considered safe to use).[citation needed]
In November 2008 scammers using fake papers attempted to take over the
torrentz.com domain. As a backup, the site administrator set up the domain torrentz.eu.[6] After 18 December 2010,
torrentz.eu became the site's default domain, due to the domain name seizures carried out by US authorities on various torrent websites.[7]
In 2013, Paramount Pictures sent a DMCA claim to Google to remove the Torrentz homepage and two other pages from its search engine. Torrentz counter-claimed on this request, claiming that the links did not infringe any copyright policies.[8]
On 26 May 2014, Torrentz had its domain name suspended without a court order[9][10] following a request from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit. A day later, the suspension of
torrentz.eu was lifted. The website had three alternative domains (.me, .ch and .in) and hoped to move the .eu domain to a new registrar. All of these domains have since been blocked within the UK by Sky.[11][12] The website had similarly been banned in India in 2012 for copyright violations, this led to incidents of hacking activism by Anonymous demanding the unblocking of Torrentz and other websites which had been blocked.[13][14]
In August 2016, a few days after Torrentz shut down, an unofficial clone of Torrentz - Torrentz2.eu - was launched that initially indexed 60 million torrents.[16] Later that month, another unofficial clone -
torrentzeu.to - was launched that initially indexed 30 million torrents.[17] At the end of June 2020, the
torrentz2.eu domain was shut down but the backup domain
torrentz2.is remained accessible.[18] Since November 2020,
torrentz2.is and its mirror pages return a "503 error" to its visitors,[19] although its .onion domain remains functional.[20]
In the modern world, you have instant access to various content online, from international movies and TV shows to various documents. However, this hasn't always been the case until some of the best torrent sites started popping up. Thanks to these platforms, you can now access anything you want, whenever you want.
To help you understand what torrents are, we'll provide a detailed guide on how they work and which torrents to use for the best experience. By the end of this guide, you'll have a few excellent torrenting options you can use daily. Read on to learn how to transfer torrent media to other devices and keep your data safe while using these tools.
A torrent is a tool that allows you to upload files online and let others download them from you and vice versa. This system is called P2P (peer-to-peer) sharing. People can download content from their computer, and you can download content from other devices. There isn't a central server where you can upload your files - instead, you are sharing data with other users of the same network.
The content you download or upload to a server will usually come in a ".torrent" format containing smaller data bits you can use. Thus, when you download torrents, you will save yourself some time because the process of obtaining data is faster. Below, you will see how these servers work.
A torrent server will use a larger file (such as a movie or a game) and break it into smaller pieces. Since the file has no central location, you will download it from someone's device, but others may want to do the same. Thus, a torrent server will distribute these smaller pieces evenly throughout the network. When downloading a file, you will get these smaller pieces to merge into a larger file.
To download or upload data to a torrent, you should first download a torrent server, or use an online torrent server, as you will see below. Once you do, you can search for what you want to download and begin the process. While downloading a file, a torrent will connect you to others. You will download simultaneously, allowing faster data-sharing between devices.
We have created a list of things a server must possess to qualify as the best torrenting website, as you will see below. When a server has all the below-mentioned elements, it is an excellent torrenting option.
As the market keeps growing rapidly, you may wonder which website to use to ensure the best downloading experience. Well, we are here to give you the best websites that you can use for the best quality content. All the websites below contain the essential elements mentioned above.
Although one of the oldest websites on the market, TPB still offers some of the best content. People worldwide use this website for downloading various content (mainly movies and games). However, this website has encountered some legality issues in the past and bandwidth drops.
Nonetheless, TPB has the best reputation in the digital world. There isn't a movie-watcher or a game player who hasn't heard about this torrenting site. Moreover, TPB has improved its bandwidth speeds - it is now one of the fastest torrents in the world, hence its reputation.
TPB frequently has updates regarding security issues, making it one of the most reliable torrent sites on the internet. You will also rarely see advertisements that will disrupt you during the search process. Overall, The Pirate Bay is one of the best torrent websites around.
Although younger than Pirate Bay, LimeTorrents is one of the most popular torrent servers. However, the website has faced some legal charges during its work history - they were forced to change the domain (thus, you may find them under "limetorrentz"). Nonetheless, it is still one of the best websites to download content.
The design of the website is user-friendly and simple. All you have to do is type in what you are searching for, and you will see the download options. Moreover, you will rarely see advertisements - even if you do, they won't be pop-up ads that may disrupt your search.
LimeTorrents has no bandwidth limits, ensuring high-speed downloads and uploads. Sometimes, you may not be able to find what you are looking for (due to the charges above, the website sometimes lacks content). Aside from this, LimeTorrents is a good and trusted torrent server, and its broad network of users proves this statement.
YTS, also known as YIFY, is one of the best websites for downloading movies and TV shows. When you enter this website, you will be surprised by its modern design with various filtering options. For example, you can only download movies in 4K resolution. Although a great website for downloading audio-visual content, it has also had some legal issues.
YTS has a different approach to downloading files - they compress files into tiny units, making the file sizes smaller and easier to download. Even with a slow internet connection, you can download files thanks to the compression system and zero bandwidth limitations.
Moreover, you can only see a few ads when you enter this website, none of which will disrupt your activity. The user-friendly interface will make the whole experience enjoyable and easy - you won't need more than a few minutes to find and download what you need from YTS.
Torrentz differs from all the previously mentioned websites due to the way it functions. Instead of uploading or downloading files from the website, Torrentz will redirect you to another torrent server with what you want. We can describe this website as a search engine for torrent files. Thus, you will find everything you need on Torrentz without browsing through multiple platforms.
When searching for the content you want, you will be pleasantly surprised by the ease of use - everything is transparent and easy to understand. Thus, Torrentz is an excellent option for anyone downloading content online.
You won't be bothered by the ads on the website because there aren't any. Additionally, there are only a few bandwidth limits - they are insignificant, so you won't notice the change in download speeds. Overall, Torrentz is an excellent and easy-to-use website for anyone who wants to acquire content quickly.
