Cannibalfetishism is far from rare, with online forums devoted to the subject throbbing with people indulging their darkest fantasies. But sometimes fantasising is only a short step away from doing, on the part of both cannibal and victim. These instances are perhaps more fascinating than ever, with high profile cases offering rare glimpses into the unique minds of cannibals and their fans alike.
Dubach passed all the emails onto the police, who sent an undercover agent in place of the victim, wearing the clothes that Curko had specified and a wire beneath. He showed up carrying a knapsack packed with everything he needed to kill, eat and dispose of Dubach. His kit included sedatives, vodka, spices, a gas lighter and gloves. He had hidden further equipment throughout the woods, including knives, guns, rope and tools. Although Curko was never connected to any spiritual doctrine, a candle and makeshift alter were a lost later found.
The amputation caused Brandes to lose a lot of blood, but not enough to kill him right away. He sat in the bath and waited to bleed out, with Meiwes checking in on him every fifteen minutes. Eventually, Brandes attempted to get out of the bath, but collapsed due to blood loss. Meiwes dragged him upstairs, where he drifted in and out of consciousness before collapsing yet again. Although Meiwes hesitated for a while, he finally stabbed Brandes in the throat, killing him, then hung the body on a meat hook.
Police began to investigate Meiwes when an Innsbruck university student saw new advertisements for victims online. They searched his home in December 2002 and found the tape Meiwes had made with Brandes, as well as the remaining chunks of his body. He was arrested and convicted of manslaughter on January 30th 2004.
In the time since, Meiwes has expressed regret for his crimes and a desire to write a book of his life story that he hopes will deter anyone who might copy his actions. Serving sentence of life imprisonment, initially for manslaughter but upgraded to murder in May 2006 following a retrial, Meiwes is now a vegetarian. This has not deterred other cannibal fetishists, who populate fan websites dedicated to Meiwes and post similar advertisements.
On November 4th, Guenzel met Stempniewicz at a bus station in Dresden and drove him to the bed and breakfast he co-owned in the Erzebirge Mountains. He had previously told Stempniewics about the equipment he kept there, which included a winch from which Guenzel could hang bodies while they bled out.
Ariana Grande has sparked online backlash by naming notorious serial killer, sex offender, and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, who murdered and dismembered seventeen boys and men between 1978 and 1991, as her dream dinner guest, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The pop star made the shocking confession during an appearance on Penn Badgley's "Podcrushed" podcast last week after the Gossip Girl/You actor starred in her recent the boy is mine music video.
Ryan Murphy's 2022 Netflix series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story drew renewed attention to the infamous killer, sparking backlash for allegedly glamorizing his crimes and inspiring numerous Halloween costumes.
After Meiwes and the victim jointly attempted to eat the victim's severed penis, Meiwes murdered his victim and proceeded to eat a large amount of his flesh.[1] He was arrested in December 2002. In January 2004, Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years and six months in prison. In a retrial in May 2006, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Because of his acts, Meiwes is also known as the Rotenburg Cannibal or Der Metzgermeister (The Master Butcher). The house where this event took place was destroyed in a fire that occurred in the early morning on 17 April 2023.
Looking for a willing volunteer, Meiwes posted an online advertisement stating that he was "looking for a well-built 18- to 25-year-old to be slaughtered and then consumed."[2] Bernd-Jrgen Armando Brandes, a 43-year-old engineer from Berlin, answered the advertisement in March 2001. Many other people responded to the advertisement but backed out; Meiwes did not attempt to force them to do anything against their will.[3][4][5][6]
The two made a videotape when they met on 9 March 2001 in Meiwes's home, in the small town of Wstefeld, west of Rotenburg an der Fulda. The video shows Meiwes amputating Brandes's penis (with his agreement) and the two men attempting to eat it together. Before doing so, Brandes swallowed twenty sleeping pills, and a bottle of cough syrup, likely causing an effect of slowed breathing and extreme tiredness. Brandes initially insisted that Meiwes should attempt to bite his penis off. This did not work, and ultimately, Meiwes used a knife to remove it. Brandes apparently tried to eat some of his own penis raw but could not, because it was too tough and, as he put it, "chewy". Meiwes then fried the penis in a pan with salt, pepper, wine, and garlic; he then fried it with some of Brandes' fat, but by then it was too burnt to be consumed. He then chopped the penis up into chunks and fed it to his dog.[7] According to court officials who saw the video (which has not been made public), Brandes may already have been too weakened from blood loss to eat any of his own penis.
Meiwes then ran Brandes a bath, before going to read a Star Trek book, while checking on Brandes every fifteen minutes, during which time Brandes lay bleeding in the bath, drifting in and out of consciousness. After long hesitation and prayer, Meiwes killed Brandes by stabbing him in the throat, after which he hung the body on a meat hook. The incident was recorded on a four-hour videotape, which has never been released to the public due to its gruesome contents. Four screenshots allegedly from the videotape can be found online, but their credibility is unproven. Meiwes dismembered and ate the corpse over the next ten months, storing body parts in his freezer under pizza boxes and consuming up to 20 kilograms (44 lb) of the flesh. According to prosecutors, Meiwes committed the act for sexual pleasure.[8][9]
Meiwes was arrested in December 2002, when a college student alerted authorities to new advertisements for victims online.[10][11] Investigators searched his home, and found body parts along with the videotape of the killing.[11]
Meiwes was diagnosed with a schizoid personality but deemed fit to stand trial.[12] On 30 January 2004, Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.[13] The case attracted considerable media attention.[14]
When speaking to a German newspaper, Meiwes admitted cannibalising Brandes and expressed regret for his actions. He added he wanted to write a biography with the aim of deterring anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps. Websites dedicated to Meiwes started appearing after his 2002 arrest, with people advertising for willing victims. "They should go for treatment, so it doesn't escalate like it did with me," said Meiwes. While in prison, Meiwes has since become a vegetarian.[15] He believes there are about 800 cannibals in Germany.[14]
In April 2005, a German court ordered a retrial after prosecutors appealed Meiwes's sentence, arguing that he should have been convicted of murder[16] because he killed for sexual gratification, a motive proved by his having videotaped the crime.[17] The court ruled that the original trial had ignored the significance of the video in disproving the argument that Meiwes only killed because he had been asked to kill.[17]
At his retrial, a psychologist stated that Meiwes could reoffend, as he "still had fantasies about devouring the flesh of young people."[18] On 10 May 2006, a court in Frankfurt convicted Meiwes of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.[19]
As of 2020, Meiwes has been allowed to go outside of prison for supervised excursions in disguise around town in a different state.[20] In prison, Meiwes works at the laundry and often attends church service.[20]
