I try this on my iPad Pro and everything happens just like in the video but the photos never show up...I look under the photos icon, save them to ...on my iPad/ photos or even the iCloud but nothing ever shows up......what is going on?
Hi @SydBee and welcome! No, if you export then your original file remains intact. Just close it and don't save. If you've made adjustments, added layers, masks etc to an original file, and you choose to save, you'll create an additional .afphoto file and again the original will remain unchanged.
If your original is normal image file (JPG, TIFF... but not AFPhoto) just export and use different name than original. If you use same name OS will as if you want to replace earlier one. In that regard export behaves just like Save As in PS.
Unless you have no problem with overwriting original files, then the Export approach protects against that. If you want to overwrite the original, AP will allow you to Save, in the same format, jpg, tif, png.
"Save As" in the Affinity applications will only save in an Affinity native format, e.g, .afdesign, .afphoto, or .afpub. If you want to save in some other format and change the name you need to use Export.
But consider all the possible options available when you decide to 'save' a native Affinity format file to a different file format. For example for JPEGs you have choices for image dimensions, compression quality, resampling method, area of the document, a choice of embedded ICC profiles, whether to embed metadata or not, etc.
A few old Mac apps from back in the pre-OSX days offered something similar via their Save as menu option but to access all the options you had to open several different modal windows. It was a kludgey approach that in more modern apps has mostly been replaced by a separate Export menu option.
Do I have this wrong or does "Save as..." always/ consistently save to the native file format, while "Save" will save to the current format, whatever it is, if nothing has been done to the file that format either cannot support at all or there is more than one way to do that?
OK, in a quick check, that does not seem to work for GIF's or SVG files, but I did not check any others, & it may be that it does not because there is more than one way for those formats to support whatever I changed when I edited them.
Recently my mobile dropbox has been unable to save photos to my photo library on my iPhone 5s. I have never had a problem with this before and am now not sure what to do. I have tried to download multiple pictures with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I just experienced this for the first time. Sucessfully exported several photos to my camera roll (as I have been doing for years with the Dropbox app), and suddenly one got the error. Then all subsequent tries on any other photos got the error. Quit the app, turned phone on and off. No dice. Plenty of space on the phone, internet connection fine, settings in Dropbox to allow use of cellular data.
What solved it was updating the app. Perhaps folks who experiece this while on the latest version would have to actually delete and reinstall the app to get rid of this problem.
I asure you, there are no issues with my internet connection. This started about a week ago. I thought maybe the update to iOS 9 would help, however still the same. I can email pictures directly from Carousel, but that's not the most convenient way to get pictures back.
Same issue here on iPhone 6 plus. Carousel says "Save Photo Failed. There may be a problem with your internet connection. Please try again" I have tried and tried and still unable to save a single or any photos to my iphone from the Carousel app. There is no connection problem nor storage issue with the iphone. Google photos (an excellent alternative app by the way !!) has no such problems and I can save photos from their app to my iphone. Is dropbox/Carousel going to fix this issue?
The same thing is happening to me. It's driving me insane as I upload all my photos (to save space) and download as needed. This started before I updated to iOS 9, and I thought it may get sorted updating - but oh no... I really hope Dropbox/Carousel pull their finger out ASAP before I figure out how to send my photos elsewhere...
I am getting the exact same error. Had it on my iPhone 5 and now my 6 plus. Perfect internet connection, plenty of storage, same error constantly. I have tried on multiple wifi connections (home, work, in-laws, etc).
Yes! And it is so hard to manually sort out which photos are inat photos. If I take them through the app they get named differently, which helps, but putting them in a seperate folder would be way better.
I was just wondering the same thing (about deleting the photos). As a test, I moved the photos elsewhere and the photos were still present in the (Android) app. I guessed that the app (after syncing) references the photos from the Internet. However, I was glad to hear a confirmation from you (@tiwane) .
The trick to saving images is to get the hidden toolbar to show up while watching the image in full screen. Long tap doesn't work. Single tap on the image doesn't work [edit: now when I'm trying again it suddenly does]. It's not there by default as in every app made by a company that cares about user interface. Turns out that one has to tap at a spot OUTSIDE the image, i.e. in any black area next to the image. Then a toolbar comes up at the top, in which there is a sharing icon at the top right. This leads to the familiar IOS sharing interface. Save Image is one of the options, and for me it works.
@Steven Miori My solution is to tap the recipient's name / chat name at the top of the screen then tapping "See all" under "Files" and then actually opening the image.
The classic "Share" button shows up at the bottom of the screen with the option to choose "Save Image", which will save it to your photo gallery.
Sometimes, photos saved from apps like Teams could end up in the hidden photos folder on your iPhone. To check this, open the Photos app, go to the "Albums" tab, and scroll down to find the "Hidden" album. Your missing image might be there.

It outlines the steps to locate and manage hidden photos, which could potentially solve your issue. If you're still unable to find your photo, it might be worth exploring alternative methods to transfer images from Teams to your iPhone.
Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today. It sounds like you are saving photos from various third party apps, receive a message that the save failed, however, the photos does end up being saved.
The app did not crash. It simply said the changes could not be saved. But went on to function as normal except in some cases where it again just failed to save the changes. So I am not sure how that would appear in a log or in crashpad.
Thanks for your help. Please let me know what other information you need from me.
Thanks for your input turbosax. With my photos they are all being worked on by Topaz as a plugin to Apple Photos. And this happens for me on new and old photos shot from several different cameras. So for me at least, it does not appear to be related to recent vs. old images/imports. I feel like it is a glitch in either Photos or Topaz. But since Topaz gives the message and is unable to complete the saving process, my feeling is it is within Topaz.
Thanks for the help. The screenshot is in my first post up top. If I try to reprocess it after the initial fail, the problem persists no matter ho many times I try. The only time I was able to get it to get it to finish sending it back to apple after a failure was when I closed it, then edited the image in apple photos before reopening it in Topaz AI. After which point it was successful.
Just had it happen today to a group of photos from a 30 fps burst (the last one of the session) from a walk in a park today. All of hundreds of photos taken before that can be loaded into apple Photos, processed through Topaz and can be saved to Apple photos. All settings the same.
When I hook my phone to pc there are no prompts to allow access to the phone. I tried the file explorer to look for a phone folder - no luck. I might have to take phone to the Verizon store & see what's wrong if I can't seem to do this myself.
You're welcome. Is it possible your PC doesn't have the right USB connection port to fit the cable you're attaching to the phone and computer? I use my phone's charging cable with the USB ports on both ends, and the smaller plug has to go to the smaller sized SS USB outlet on my computer.
I use Google Messages as my messaging app and with pictures there, I tap on the image which brings up a larger view of it, then click the download button in the corner. It then saves it to my gallery.
Okay, how do I transfer to pc. I put check marks on each photo. But no luck. I have a lot of photos on computer from my old phone. But since I bought this one in Nov. of 2023, I can't seem to transfer to my Dell. It states that it is importing, but nothing since Nov. of last year. Help.
