Five prominent personalities in the city Mumbai are the focus of the film. Tilak (Tusshar Kapoor) is a small-time publisher of unlicensed books along with his friends Mandook (Pitobash Tripathy) and Ramesh (Nikhil Dwivedi). They kidnap a famous author and force him to give the manuscript of his latest book to them so that they will be the first ones to publish it.

Sawan (Sundeep Kishan) is a young cricketer hoping to break into the under-22 Mumbai cricket team. The story focuses on their trials and tribulations as they battle life in the city of Mumbai during the chaotic period of the festival Ganesh Chaturthi.

The film attempts to address topics such as chance, the never-ending conflict between hope and despair, and self-actualization. The film begins with the song "Karma is a bitch," which fits with the major concept of the movie, in which the characters struggle to come to terms with their own actions. Abhay has a horrible past that isn't disclosed in the movie, but it's possible that he traveled to India to escape it. Tilak initially holds himself responsible for the injury of the child due to the bomb explosion that happens in the movie which brings him closer to his wife and views life from a different perspective. The goons who traumatized Abhay eventually end up being shot by their own bullets on the day of Ganesha Visarjan.

Tilak gets a new life and finds his treasure at home. Sawan gives up the money he finds at the bank robbery and instead focuses on improving his game for cricket selections and gets support from Sejal (Sawan's partner) too. Ramesh is seen applying for jobs and Mandook is protesting at a rally. Towards the end of the movie, all characters move on different paths.

Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India awarded it four stars out of five and stated "With a zany screenplay (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), excellent cinematography by Tushar Kanti Ray and peppy music by Sachin-Jigar, Shor in the City is another breaking-norm film from Ekta Kapoor".[12]

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it three and a half stars and wrote "Shor in the City belongs to one of those rare categories of movies with sensibilities that would not only entice the festival crowd and the cinema literate, but also lure the ardent moviegoer."[13]

Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN awarded three and a half stars saying "A delicious mix of quirky humor, gruesome violence, and surprising sensitivity, Shor in the City works on the strength of its smart script and consistent performances from its ensemble cast."[15]

Tushar Joshi of MiD DAY gave it a four star rating and wrote "Loaded with humor, sarcasm and wit. That truly is the beauty of the makers who succeed in arresting you with their tales. The spectacular climax is easily one of the best written in recent times."[19]

Karan Anshuman of Mumbai Mirror gave it a four star rating, saying "Three stories, eleven days, myriad layers, believable characters, fine performances, spirited direction, taut script, momentary explosions of originality."[20]

Shor in the City was officially selected for the Busan International Film Festival and the Dubai International Film Festival in 2010. The film won the Best Director Award for Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK at MIAAC in New York.[21]

On March 6, 2024, Port Angeles City Council voted to adopt a Short-Term Lodging Ordinance. The approval establishes new regulations and fees for short-term rental and bed-and-breakfast operations, scheduled to take effect July 1, 2024.

The Port Angeles Municipal Code (Ordinance 3577) currently prohibits short-term rentals in the R7, R9, and R11 zones. Effective July 1st, short-term rental owners and operators must obtain a City of Port Angeles business license and inspection. However, there will be no location-based restrictions.

The approved ordinance will go into effect on July 1, 2024. It is important to note that the ordinance includes a phased transition period, allowing short-term lodging operators time to become licensed and inspected.

As a next step, City staff will develop a comprehensive online portal for individuals to apply for, manage and renew licenses related to short-term lodging. The portal will be available to applicants beginning July 1, 2024. Enforcement activities will not begin until November 1, 2024.

As part of the licensing process, all applicants will be required to obtain a fire life-safety inspection. An inspection can be scheduled after July 1, 2024, and after the application submittal is determined to be complete, and will be based on the number of short-term rental licenses available at that time.

Commercial STR License Owners, please be advised of the updated renewal process. As of June 8, 2023, pursuant to CZO 19.4.A.20, new Commercial Short Term Rental applications can no longer be accepted. The applications are no longer available on the One Stop App.

The City of New Orleans has been enjoined by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana from enforcing the short term rental regulations enacted in Ordinances 29381 and 29382 pending further order of the court.

NOTICE: Short term lodging permit renewal forms and the owner annual Uniform Transient Occupancy Tax (UTOT) forms are mailed out annually at the end of September. The short term lodging permit renewal fee is $89.

Please note that the renewal and UTOT forms are not available online and will be mailed to you at the end of September. If you have not received the forms via mail by October 15th, you may send an email to lod...@newportbeachca.gov. Please note we will not be able to accommodate requests before October 15th. Additionally, you cannot remit the forms and payments online. You will need to return the forms in person to the Revenue Counter at 100 Civic Center Drive 1A, Newport Beach, CA 92260, or mail the completed forms and payment back in the enclosed envelope.

The city's third-party provider conducts daily monitoring of the STR platform. If you are operating your STR (actively renting or advertising) without a permit, you are in violation of Ketchum Municipal Code Chapter 5.09.

You can apply for a short-term rental permit or renewal of your short-term rental permit by clicking the green "Short-Term Rental Application" link below. The City does not accept paper applications. Everything can be completed via the online application, including submitting the required documentation and payment.

The significant growth of short-term rentals within the city has created a need for reasonable regulations so as to protect the health, safety, and welfare of short-term rental guests, as well as neighboring property and the public.

The short-term rental ordinance will allow the city to improve its data collection. An accurate accounting of the number of units in town and their utilization will provide for consistent treatment for all short-term rentals and better compliance with Local Option Tax collection.

Once your Short-Term Rental Permit application is approved, it will be valid for one year. You can expect to receive an email 30 days prior to the expiration of your permit reminding you that your permit is due to expire. The email will provide a link to the renewal application (which can also be found via the application link above).

When you are ready to apply for the renewal of your short-term rental permit, you will be asked to provide your Short-Term Rental Permit number. Once you provide your permit number, the application will prompt you to confirm all details such as your property address, email contact, local representative, emergency contact information, etc. You will need the following documents for your renewal application:

If you fail to submit a renewal application for your Short-Term Rental Permit prior to the expiration date, there is a grace period. Please still try to apply for a renewal of your Short-Term Rental Permit, even if it's past the expiration date. If the system is unable to locate your Short-Term Rental Permit, that means you will need to submit a new Short-Term Rental Application as it is significantly past the expiration and grace period date.

Please note, your property will be flagged as non-compliant if you are actively renting & advertising your short-term rental and have failed to submit a renewal application for your Short-Term Rental Permit. If your property is flagged as non-compliant, the City will proceed accordingly.

Any individually or collectively owned single-family house or dwelling unit or any unit or group of units in a condominium, cooperative or timeshare, or Resident-occupied residential home that is offered for a fee and for thirty (30) days or less.

A Short-Term Rental Permit is required in order to rent a dwelling unit for short-term occupancy. The application for a Short-Term Rental Permit can be found at the application link above. The standards for a short-term rental permit is provided by the City on the Declaration of Compliance. The permit will be valid for one year and can be renewed annually. It will be applicable to the designated dwelling unit to be used as a STR and issued to and in the name of the resident. A change in resident requires a new permit. If the permitee is a renter, then consent of the property owner must be provided.

When you apply for a new, or renewal, STR permit, you must submit an affidavit affirming compliance with city standards along with completing a city provided self-inspection checklist. This is completed through the Declaration of Compliance document, found above. The city may require an inspection to verify compliance with standards upon application, compliance or non-compliance, or in relation to other permit enforcement action. Following is a list of minimum standards:
