Good afternoon everyone! If anyone emails presi...@googlegroups.com, everyone who was in our group circle yesterday will get the email. Here is the text that I sent Stephanie yesterday:

  • We are Group F... state the conclusion.
  • Part 2: blurb about social contract theory.
  • According to social contract theory...
  • In this case.... analysis/arguement...
  • Conclusion: restate

We, the People of CIS, Group F are representing the citizens of the states outside of East Dakota regarding the recent Presidential election. As a society run by social contract theory, we believe it is moral and in our self interest as rational people to have another election in light of the massive electoral fraud committed in East Dakota.

According to social contract theory, “morality consists in the set of rules governing behavior, that rational people would accept, on the condition that others accept them as well.” (Rachels, p. 145)

We have arranged our society in accordance with this theory and therefore, any rule is moral if it is already existing within the rules and regulations in our legislation. It states clearly in our common law, the 12th Amendment that “The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President.” In this election, this law was not adhered to. As rationally, self interested people we believe that it is in everyone's interest to have a re-vote and re-evaluate the consensus of our society to assure that the correct person will be serving us as president for the next term.

We understand that there may be inconveniences to this new vote including time, money, logistics, the methods we use to vote going forward in light of the digital security breaches, and some individuals may resist our inclination for a new vote but as rational, self-interested people it would be immoral to not have a re-vote. We also understand that this was a very close election and that approximately half of our population is satisfied with President X, but this does not meet our standards as a people.

In our society, we originally established the language of the 12th Amendment to form rules from which our society can grow and flourish with confidence in our elected leaders. Everyone within our society, as rational and self-interested people, expects their vote to count and we believe that everyone deserves to have their vote count towards the candidate they support. In the recent election, this did not happen.

We expect that all rational self-interested people will be in agreement with our decision for a re-vote.

We the programmers are not morally responsible because we don't fulfill the causal condition or the mental condition in the case of the Therac-25.

It is the fault of AECL Management and they are responsible for the malfunctioning machine.

We are blaming the management. They fulfilled the causal condition because they created the Therac-25 and distributed it.

They fulfill the mental condition in that even tho they didn't intend to cause harm, the condition is fulfilled by the unintended harm and negligence. It was the standing obligation of AECL Management to provide a fully working machine. The sale of a machine is a contractual obligation that AECL entered into with their customers. The problem with the system was that it wasn't fail-safe and good engineering practice dictates that a system should be designed so that no single point of failure will lead to catastrophe. AECL was not thorough in testing and lacked important documentation of potential overdoses. Even though they were in a position to fix all the problems, there should have not been any problems before they put it on the market. They also had a standing obligation to their customers using the machines to give them proper information on the machine and they were negligent to this obligation too because they were giving misinformation to some customers by telling them that overdoses were impossible when they were already being sued by another patient.
