Hi guys,

I've been bothered by the last EXCO meeting over this past weekend.

In my opinion, I don't have time to convince motivate and sayang everyone. So I hope what follows in this email is not taken personally, and instead taken as an opportunity to jump-start the club into ENACTUS action

I believe that the club has not been given a clear direction and a clear plan. Over and beyond this, I feel that the rest of the EXCO still doesn't have a clear perspective too. My proof is that at the start of the semester, when I asked for a sub comm and recruitment of people into my team, I was brushed aside, whether intentionally or not. Up till now, I didn't ask for the sub comm and support and commitment because I have focussed less on talking and on giving you guys some real plans and proposals (like the leaders camp and retreat).

And now the time has come for action.

Hui Ming, you shared that you felt really bad how the EXCO pretty much slaughtered and resisted me when I talked about the leaders camp. This is my last try FOR the club. And this is all I can do. I wanted a committee position as more than just director from the start because I needed the necessary power/authority to kick start things. All that can be done is to entrust my plans and vision for the club into the hands of those with it--you and Chau Min. I have given all my insight and perspective and all my plans, I can only trust that you guys will continue to make the right decisions for the club in the last 11 weeks for this MC ( week 1 has passed, and after week 12ish we stop activities for this last semester of AY 2012-13).

It is time to give the club a clear perspective, if not then a firm direction. Otherwise, I will just do what is only expected from just another director in NTU ENACTUS.

FYI: this email was designed so that you can share this with others by email. It will reach more people, and with more impact. it is long, but i guarantee that it will be interesting. And my last suggestion is that the rest of the EXCO needs to hear and see all of this. As. It. Is.

I'm still working on the proposal for the leaders camp, will share that later

Brian Ashley

I think he is too strongly for his own idea that he die die must implement what he wants. Advice was given to him but he will always come up with reasons not to listen to you.

He insist that the project leaders see it as a Brian thing instead of a club thing despite explaining to him that the time frame of the training is more of a concern rather than the content.

Anyway, I think that he should understand that leadership is not about using authority to move people but to get ppl to buy into his idea.

However some of the things he say may be correct. As a club or even exco level, they may not be clear of the aims we have set for the upcoming years. Maybe we could have done better to communicate the idea.

In conclusion, he should spend less time on all the long and fanciful  proposals  and emails ( which is very difficult for me to read )  and start to do the actual work for the camp.

I find that Brian likes to come up with big plans and think FAR ahead into the future.
Even though there is uncertainty now.

The 2 attachments are too LONG to read. Can someone summarise?
Then maybe I can comment a bit more...

Anyway, if he wants to set a theme, its up to the NEXT EXCO to decide if they want to accept it. Not us.

I feel that the focus should be on PROJECTS and coming up with a COOKIE CUTTER to ensure our projects have higher chances of success.

Anyway, if no1 else wants to agree with him, there's nothing much he can do about it. Maybe its that we dont value his opinions and he might find more success helping OTHER CLUBS. It will be good for him if he can get more affirmation there.

I gave up reading his mail when he did SWOT Analysis...

And he directed the mail to Chau Min and Hui Ming. So I shouldnt comment so much, haha.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments and I agree with both Chau Min and Sam's views on this matter. My added views are also that he has something to prove, and he is desperately lacking time as he is graduating soon. Yes, his words are strong, which can be taken as a confrontation towards us, but I will not take this personally and I hope you all don't judge him like that as well. I still take heart that he has a passion for the club, and it's just that his methods are really one of a kind.

He came all the way to school yesterday to meet me, and we talked for an hour. He apologised by saying that his mail to us was laced with emotions and he regrets it.

In all, I summarise my 1 hour meeting with him in these points:

- he really wants to help the club but he has firm beliefs in his own big plans

- says Chau Min and I havent given him a clear direction, to which I agree partially which might have made him go around without an aim. However i also told him that he should be more concise

- it seems he wants authority and control of club, (saying things like "if I may step beyond my boundaries to say this to you") talking a lot more on strategic directions of the club which is over and beyond his job scope

- he was disappointed why he wasn't invited to our meeting at McDonalds, saying he should be involved in the strategic directions of the club. it felt like I owed him an explanantion

- Lastly, I feel that he thinks about too many things, from project management to how to improve internal processes of the club, which kind of duplicates what we are trying to achieve. I see it as he wants to also lead the club, but sadly he is graduating soon, and he is lost in his own personal aims, and from this confusion and endless urge to have things his own way, leads ultimately to frustration as exemplified by his words.

Chau Min and I are meeting his this Saturday. I hope we will have a clear plan derived after that and not another situation in which we are drawn in by all the confusing words and not get any clear picture at all.

Honestly, I am sad and hurt, that I placed my trust and faith in him as a friend, and gave him support and allowed him back into the EXCO, and currently he is bringing instability and taking away our attention and time.

Not so cheerful,
Hui Ming
