Hi guys and gals (and every1 who loves Bread),

2012 Goal to All EXCO: To find a new faculty advisor to replace Prof Clive, by end of 2012.

KPI: Everyone is to find at least 1 potential professor & report the progress by October’s Exco meeting.

How? Interact & talk to your professors more. Don’t just ask them about school work, can get to know them better & build better friendship with them.

Grab every chance to tell him/intro more about SIFE, what we do and about Gourmet Guru.

Some Ways to lead-in to SIFE

1.      Find out what they like doing in their free time casually.
If they like business-related stuff/helping others, can tell them more about SIFE.

2.      Lament about your CCA to them. Say there’s a lot of work to do.
Then your prof will ask you what CCA u r in.

3.       Wear SIFE Shirt to class as often as you can. If your prof wears a different shirt one day, tell him it’s a nice shirt. Then he may ask you about your shirt as well.

4.       Ask ur prof if he’s very busy. If he has free time & what he does during his free time.

Then u can tell him about what you do during your free time (which is to do help others via doing SIFE work). Then he will ask you about SIFE.

A Sample Introduction:

“Basically, we help to create businesses for needy people. Instead of just volunteering our help every week, we use the time to create a viable business model for these people. Then we hand it over to these disadvantaged people to give them sustainable income. So we don’t just give them a fish, we teach them how to fish for themselves.”

“For example, we are working on this project called Gourmet Guru, where we help low-income housewives. As some of them, especially the malays, know how to cook great food, we help them earn an extra source of income by teaching them how to teach their recipes to others. Then we set-up cooking classes for them, which is held every Saturday, and they will teach the recipes. We also have ad-hoc catering events and even secured a contract with SSS to teach Home Economics to Sports School students.”

“we even managed to win Start-Up @Singapore in Youth Category & got featured in many newspapers and magazines.”

“But we still need help in some areas, like the direction to take to expand our business so that we can impact more housewives and give them a higher and more sustainable income”.

If prof express interest, say “you know, actually we are looking for a faculty advisor, as our old one is leaving.”

Ask if he can help out just a small bit. “We just need small help in stuff that we are uncertain about sometimes.”

“Like to consult about the direction our club & get feedback for our projects”.

"Its not difficult. The most we will only require to meet once a month for bigger items like deciding which new SIFE Projects to start up ."

Yours Sincerely,

Sam Ho
