Great discussion everyone!  First of all, I'll make the official announcement that our next topic is #20, James Garfield!  We got to choose between two of the more unfortunate presidents, neither of whom lived much into their first term.  The other option was William Henry Harrison, who only lived for 32 days after his inauguration.

Anyway, we all picked Garfield because it seems some interesting stuff has been written about him.  Here are a few books I found that might work:

Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, which is available on Kindle, as an audiobook and of course as an actual book.  It's not exactly a biography, focusing just on the time of his presidency, but I think I'm OK with that.  It's supposed to be excellent.

Another option is DARK HORSE: The Surprise Election and Political Murder of President James A. Garfield which might be more biographical, but it's hard to tell from the description.  Available on Kindle and regular book only.

Lastly, there is From Log-Cabin to White House: The Life of President James A. Garfield, which is just a little e-book with only a fairly useless review.  Nonetheless, it seems to promise and actual biography of him.  WIkipedia might suffice for this too.

As a bonus, I recommend reading the Garfield section of this book (as well as the rest of it, if you feel like it):
Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell

And finally, we decided it would be better to settle on a date ahead way of time.  So, if you wouldn't mind, please fill out this doodle poll about your availability for a few weekends in January and we can pin this down now.  I'm hoping that system works better for everyone.

Happy holidays to you all and see you next year!

Thanks everyone for doing the Doodle poll.  It's between Jan 10th and Jan 31, but it turns out that the 10th is my birthday weekend and it's possible I'll elect to go somewhere.  Thus, I decree we shall meet on January 31 at 1:00 PM.

Feb 1st is also a possibility in case something comes up for someone on the 31st, but I would really rather just pick a date and stick with it.

Got it?  Jan 31st.  Get that shit on your calendar.  And if you don't have a 2015 calendar yet, then you should probably look into that.
