Looking forward to seeing most of you tomorrow.  I want to make a slight adjustment to the schedule if it's not too annoying - one of the Commissions I'm on had a last minute meeting scheduled on Saturday from 8:30 - 12:30.  So, the original planned meeting time of 1:00 is still in tact but I'll probably be walking in the door at 12:50, so please refrain from being too punctual.

I'm also going to ask for a little help to make it go smoother.  Is there anyone who can pick up a Cheese Board pizza on the way?  I will reimburse you, but it would certainly make things easier on me.

Also, if you don't like Cheese Board Pizza (which will purportedly have artichoke hearts on it), then you're welcome to bring something else.  I'll have a salad, fruit, and some bubbly water.

See you all tomorrow!

Shoshana

I'll bring the pizza, I'll be down there anyway.

Sorry, one last thing....

I am never this organized but, because I will be in a meeting starting at 8 AM tomorrow, I realized I will not have time to write any questions tomorrow before the meeting.  So, I wrote them tonight.

I'm not super satisfied with them, so I thought I would send out what I have and invite additional ones.  Even if you don't have any, please take a look and give them some thought before the meeting.

I went ahead and focused them on Destiny of the Republic, because I am pretty sure everyone but Gaby read that book, and I've already apologized to her.  If I'm wrong and you read a different book, I especially encourage you to submit a question that reflects the perspective of what you read.

Here they are:

What kind of President would Garfield have been?  Would he have created drastic and lasting change in America?

Explore the similarities between Garfield and Lincoln.  Do you think the American people were trying to re-create the experience of Lincoln by electing Garfield?

Does anyone know more about the contemporary political figures that are mentioned in the book but not fleshed out?  Why were the other candidates not as compelling?

And what exactly was going on at that convention, anyway?

Old question, asked again: who wanted to be president less: Truman, Washington or Garfield?

Can we please spend 5 minutes talking about the Oneida sex cult that Guiteau was part of?

Alexander Graham Bell – what was his true motivation to invent the thingy to help Garfield?

Chester A. Arthur - villain or decent human being?

What do we think of Guiteau’s defensive statement, "the doctors killed Garfield, I just shot him"?  Also, how crazy was his final poem?

What was your favorite part of the book?
