FW: quick deadline (May 30) for Backing Historic Small Restaurants $50K grant applications

We’re excited to share that Backing Historic Small Restaurants, presented by American Express in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is back for its fifth round! This year, 50 restaurants across the country will each have the opportunity to receive a $50,000 grant. These funds can be utilized for exterior preservation projects as well as general operations support. Please share this exciting opportunity with your networks and consider collaborating with your favorite historic and iconic restaurants on an application.

 

Excitingly, state and local preservation partners working with historic restaurants in their communities can receive up to $10,000 in funding out of the grant proceeds for their efforts. Examples of partner support include: supporting grant reporting, helping to identify preservation-sensitive contractors, helping to scope and manage exterior project, arranging community engagement opportunities such as improvement tours upon completion etc.

 

The deadline to apply is Friday, May 30^th at 11:59 p.m. EST.

The grant selection criteria for eligible U.S. small historic restaurants:

• Is a small/independently owned restaurant located in a historic or older building or neighborhood
• Contributes to the history and/or identity of its surrounding community or neighborhood
• Tells a story about cuisine and community in America, highlighting historic food traditions and culinary heritage
• Has a compelling and inspiring historical narrative or cultural significance
• Has been disproportionately impacted by economic challenges, disasters, or other hardships
