K0102152 Historic Preservation Specialist II (Subgrants Coordinator/HTF Grants Manager) | State Posting | Position Description
This position is responsible for administering and monitoring grant-funded projects for compliance with state and federal funding requirements and reviewing project plans for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Duties include scheduling and conducting on-site visits to historic properties, developing and implementing procedures, criteria, and evaluation standards for the program, creating applications, promoting the program to the public, and conducting in-person and online workshops. Please see the position description for full list of tasks associated with this position. The employee must be able to read, understand, and explain construction plans, must provide excellent customer service, and must be able to inspect historic buildings from roof to basement. The successful applicant will meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards in the areas of Architectural History or Historic Architecture.

K0174168 Archeologist (Archeology Lab Director) | State Posting | Position Description
The Kansas Historical seeks a qualified archeologist and/or collections manager to serve as the Archeology Lab Director at the Kansas Historical Society. The employee is responsible for management of the archeological collections at the Kansas Historical Society, which involves laboratory management, donation review and processing, loan maintenance, collection processing and rehabilitation, and care for collections, including ethnographic collections and curated collections, and assists the State Archeologist with NAGPRA compliance regarding potential cultural items in the care of the Historical Society. The Lab Director also coordinates several regular volunteers, runs the Archeology Lab at the Kansas Archeology Training Program field school, a yearly excavation open to the public conducted in partnership with the Kansas Anthropological Association. The position may also work with the Exhibits staff on new exhibits and displays and may be asked to complete reports and summaries of artifact analyses for various projects completed by the agency, including work with the Contract Archeology Program on testing and mitigation reports. The Lab Director may be asked to give laboratory tours or presentations to the public and identifies items that would be good candidates to digitize for Kansas Memory.

This position serves as the office manager and first point of contact for the Cultural Resources Division of the Kansas Historical Society. Tasks include answering phone calls and emails, providing basic responses to requests for information, and then directing requests to appropriate staff as needed. The employee will prepare and track purchase orders, payments, travel vouchers, contracts, and expense reports, as well as monitor expenditures for the Division. This person will also plan staff travel and meetings, take minutes for meetings, work with staff to prepare legal notices, help track grant program payments, and maintain files. The employee must possess excellent customer service skills. Preference will be given to candidates who exhibit proficiency with common office software and accurate file management.
