Blue skies and bright sunshine are part of what we all love about Colorado! That is, except for what it does to historic wood. High altitude, UV exposure, and extreme weather conditions can all wreak havoc on our historic wood buildings.

This leads many to believe that wood features need to be replaced at the first sign of damage. But is that true? Can they be salvaged?

Come to a FREE day-long workshop conducted by Ron Anthony of Anthony & Associates to learn more. Ron is a nation-wide expert in the field of “wood archaeology.” In a combination of classroom lectures and field training, you will learn about:

  • Wood as a historic construction material
  • Factors that affect wood performance
  • What to look for and where to look in a historic wood structure
  • How to determine when you need help
  • Considerations for making informed decisions
  • Field assessments

Workshop will focus on evaluating the condition of historic wood features and structural elements, and understanding their importance to an overall preservation project. Participants will learn to identify clues to the age and condition of the wood, as well as determine whether or not any structural modifications have been made.

  • No admission fee!
  • Workshop hosted at Historic Crook’s Palace, 200 Gregory Street, Black Hawk
