The two stroke petroleum engines used in two wheelers and three
wheelers (Auto Rikshaw as called in India) emit smoke which is highly
polluting since the emission contains half burnt fuel unlike four
stroke engines. It has two problems associated with them.
One being that the half burnt fuel entails them to be less efficient
and these vehicles consume more fuel and become expensive as will as
doing the damage of depleting more of the fossil fuel. The second is
that the half burnt fuel and smoke emitted out contains more
pollutants and invariably these vehicles use leaded petrol which emits
lead also into the atmosphere. The content of carbon is also quite high
along with CO and CO2.
In addition to this there are many unscrupulous elements who sell
adulterated petrol by mixing various chemicals and make a concoction
of a fuel which is extremely dangerous to anybody who come in contact
with that as dangerous chemicals are added to them. In the long run it
damages the engine and its parts. But this fuel is much cheaper than
the regular fuel and hence people buy them and use for saving some
money but spoiling the health of their vehicle in return. These fuels,
also called petrol is sold by many shops and bunks in the small
streets or outside the city limit and have a large clientèle to be
served.
Many of the auto Rikshwa drivers adulterate the petrol used in their
vehicle with diesel since most of them drive on daily wages or on
rent. So they do not bother the health or well being of the vehicle
and wanted to make quick money at the earliest. But in this process
they are bellowing out huge polluted smoke and release lot of
dangerous chemicals and unburnt fuel into the atmosphere making
ordinary common man to breath this air resulting in many cases of
breathing problems, asthma and cancer.
But it seems nobody is doing anything to rectify this problem and
treat this as nobody's problem and this could become too dangerous and
complicated to control or cure.
