These lands were donated to the birds by the farmers of the district
when they migrated out of these villages to other places. These lands
are being looked after by a village committee for the welfare of
pigeons. This committee calls for tender for the lands to be
cultivated and the highest bidder is given the right to cultivate the
lands for that season. The money so collected is paid into the Fixed
deposit account of the pigeons and the money is swelling at a fast
rate and has more than two millions of rupees as of now.
This is in addition to the amount spent on the feeding of the birds
for the whole year which comes to the tune of about Rs. 100000 to Rs.
150000 . The villagers buy millet, barley etc for feeding the birds
and have built platforms for the birds to have water and food. There
are thousands of birds flocking and living in these villages.
They, the birds, also defecate and the droppings can be used as very
good manure for the agriculture since it does not contain any harmful
chemicals and is rich in minerals and other chemicals.
Normally people kill the birds and eat them every where . At least for
a change here is some great souls who protect and feed them and do a
genuine humanitarian service.
