The Baija is a river dolphin which is found in the big rivers of the
world and is one of the five river dolphins. The others being The
Amazon River Dolphin, Indus River Dolphin, Ganges River Dolphin and
The Tucuxi river dolphin. The Baija river dolphin is found in the
YANTZE river of China. These river water or fresh water Dolphins are
pre historic and are living with out any change for the last so many
millions of years and can be considered along with crocodiles as
related to dinosaurs.
The baiji river dolphin is well accustomed to live in the dirty, murky
and translucent river water and has a body shape designed by nature to
exactly to adapt to this dwelling in the rivers. The gestation period
of this animal is about 11 months and delivers live babies and suckle
them till they grow up.
The economic development of China and the corresponding pollution of
its rivers and depletion of water levels and floods have done havoc on
their population and finally it is now extinct
