Lion Kills Lioness in Trivandrum Zoo

The Trivandrum Zoo was a beautiful zoo with a Museum in the middle of
a park and a forest like atmosphere with lots of trees and an
undulating topography. All the wild animals, deer, elephants, Giraffe,
Monkeys, birds , Hippopotamus, Rhinoceros etc are having separate
enclosures and scattered and kept in a very scientific way. It was
once the only zoo in which a car can be taken around and view animals
from it. It was designed, planned and constructed by an English
aecitect under the supervision of Mr. Wellingtom who was the resident
of British empire with finances provided by the Travancore royalty.
Recently when I visited it I found that the zoo was completely
changed and reshaped with enclosures and shed in a very bad and
unscientific manner and it requires a person to go here and there to
see animals while previously it was easy as one progresses towards the
exit to see all the species.
Recently the Zoo was in the newspapers for all the wrong reasons. A
lion, Ayush, who has fathered two cubs was separated from his mate ,
the lioness, Aishweriya , which has delivered two cubs. The lioness
which had delivered was not attending on one of the cubs and the zoo
authorities had taken the cub and were attending to it , feeding it
manually.
As the Lion Ayush was alone and was in a charged mood , the zoo
authorities let in a lioness Renuka into his enclosure to keep him
company. But the instant the lioness was let in , Ayush pounced upon
the lioness Renuka and bit her throat and killed her.
Whatever action the zoo authorities tried to save the lioness were
useless and the lion died immediately.
This action shows how careless the authorities should have been. They
should have allowed the lions to be near to each other for sometime
before allowing them in the same enclosure. Many Lions and Tigers
also do the same thing of killing other animals od their own kind in
protecting their territorial rights. Not only man is killing and
destroying wild animals but the animals themselves kill each other.
