Dear Friends, Anne, I, and the rest of my family want to thank you all for your many prayers and expressions of support in the last few days of my mother's life. Even at her age of 89 this month, we were not prepared for the suddenness of her departure. She had been very ill back in March, as some remember, and then had struggled recently with a period of anorexia and fatigue. In the last two weeks she had shown remarkable rebound, especially after she moved into an assisted living facility last Monday, a really nice place where all evidence indicated she would thrive. She was already eating better, gaining weight, and voluntarily exercising with other residents. That is where on Friday she stepped up on a curb, lost her balance, and fell backwards, causing grave injury to her brain. Her homegoing after we removed the ventilator this afternoon was peaceful and painless, and mercifully short. Some 15 of us sang her favorite hymns in harmony, read her favored scriptures, and shared our love and appreciation for her long and faithful life. She will be buried with my father and son here in Birmingham, probably Friday afternoon. Again, thanks for being church. John and Anne

Please lift the whole Whirley family up in prayer, as John's mother passed away at 2:07 this afternoon.

Our hearts and prayers go out to them.

Marise
