Prescott Church friends:

This coming Sunday, 1/26 -- our last regular worship service at Prescott before we proceed over to Shady Grove the following Sunday -- we'll hear brief prepared remarks from four of our members, and we'll also enjoy some special music. Please be on time, seated in the sanctuary by 10:45 a.m., as we have much we want to say and do.

Some former pastors are sending us written blessings, as are some laypersons with Prescott connections (e.g., persons who grew up at Prescott and now live elsewhere). All friends & members -- present, former, active, inactive -- are welcome to submit written reflections, to be included in materials to be distributed to all who are present this coming Sunday and next. If you want to submit such written reflections, give them to me no later than this Friday, 1/24, either by email or mail or hand delivery -- and I will collate and copy them for the handout Sunday. Please keep them fairly short, for obvious reasons, and don't worry if it seems too short to you; even a couple of sentences or a paragraph is fine. Handwritten or typewritten is OK.

Also, we're going to create a time capsule, containing our history and a few other items, to be opened in 50 years. Everyone who is physically present on Jan. 26 or Feb. 2 (right before we head out from our parking lot at 10:00) will be invited to sign their names on a document that will go into the time capsule, as an indication that you were personally there as we were about to embark on our new journey. We'll also place a current membership list in the capsule.

So you have two ways to "be present," one by sending written remarks to be distributed this Sunday and one by being personally present and signing the document for the time capsule. Feel free to do either or both.

For both our last two Sundays we'll have photographers and videographers on hand, to record things for us and for posterity.

Thanks to all who came to worship this past Sunday. Several of you have asked me for a copy of my remarks. I'll get my notes in readable form and make them available soon.

Remember to contact Laura Flippin by next Tuesday, 1/28, if you plan to take part in the lunch that our wonderful sisters and brothers at Shady Grove are preparing for us after worship on Feb. 2. Her email is Laura_...@yahoo.com, and her home phone is (901) 767-7256 -- alternative: Don's cell, which is (901) 406-5641

Below is the latest weekly newsletter from Shady Grove. Let's all pay special attention to activities there; very soon "there" will be "here" and "they" will be "us." Amen!!!

Blessings,

Tom Walsh

P.S. It has been wonderful seeing old friends in worship services lately. More have indicated they'll be joining us in worship this Sunday. Congressman Steve Cohen has told us he plans to come this Sunday.

P.P.S. Minutes of our business meeting yesterday, in which we made several decisions relating to our transition, will soon be available to members. The word from the church looking to purchase our building is that the process is moving forward at their end. We hope to hear more from them soon.
