In a true spirit of joy and celebration, former Prescott faithful gathered at 961 Getwell yesterday afternoon for a service of thanksgiving sponsored by our good sisters and brothers of Freedom's Chapel Christian Church. Through resounding music of praise and prayers of thanksgiving, as well as in the spoken word from pastor Rev. Roz Nichols and others, we received generous expressions of thanks from the Freedom's Chapel pastor and congregation for the transfer of our church property to that congregation. A plaque was on display to mark Prescott's presence and history at that place. On our behalf, Gloria Zotkiewicz reciprocated with our own feelings of gratitude that at our former location the ministry of Christ -- not "our" ministry" but God's -- is being carried forward in such worthy fashion. Most definitely the thanks go both ways.

Mary Alice Brake, along with John Whirley and the Church Council members, received recognition for their help and leadership in making all this happen. Shady Grove pastor Jarad Bingham was also present and was recognized as one who helped wisely shepherd the decision-makers in this transition. Also present were persons who have been affiliated with both Prescott & Freedom's Chapel, Theresa & Jebose Okwumabua and William Moore. All told, at many different levels it felt like a homecoming.

The service reflected core characteristics that Prescott people as a congregation sought to embody over the years: embracing true diversity in Christ; approaching our mission with an ever-positive attitude; and welcoming change as a necessary part of life and growth.

There were plenty of joyful tears and hugs to go around. It was a wonderful day.

We hope to share the group photo of Prescott people that the Freedom's Chapel photographer took at the end of the service, and to include it in our time capsule later. I also took pictures during the service that I hope at share at some point.

Now thank we all our God.

Tom
