O Come, All Ye Faithful
CHOIR PRESENTS CHRISTMAS CANTATA NEXT SUNDAY
Next Sunday, December 20, the last Sunday before Christmas, the choir will present its Christmas Cantata, including some familiar carols on which the congregation can join in. For this special occasion we will have extra instrumentalists. Our volunteer musicians have worked hard on this; please come to worship and to receive their gift. This will also be Harvest Sunday, when we’ll receive stewardship pledges.
After worship the youth will have a Bake Sale fundraiser. If possible, please bring at least one item that can be sold to benefit our youth.
At 4:00 p.m. Sunday join us for Christmas Caroling at an area nursing home – see details below.
BEFORE AND AFTER THE SERVICE
We will continue to receive $3 Angel Tree donations in honor or memory of persons. The donations benefit students at Joyce Wood’s school (Fairley HS) and at Prescott’s Adopt-A-School, Sherwood Elementary; and the Youth Center in Thailand that Meredith Walsh helped found.
Once more, as a fundraiser the youth will sell $1.50 sausage biscuits at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall, as Sunday School begins. Also, for this final Sunday of Advent we’ll gather after worship for fellowship and refreshments, as well as for the Bake Sale (above).
IAM STORE: OPEN EXTRA HOURS
Our International Artisans Market (IAM Store) offers unique Christmas items by craftspersons from around the world. This week IAM is open 5-6 Wednesday, 11-2 on Saturday, and 12-1:30 Sunday.
THIS COMING SATURDAY, DEC. 19: SATURDAY SUPPER
It will next be Prescott's turn to do Saturday Supper this coming Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 480 S. Highland at Mynders. This is a special blessing for everyone who pitches in. Come before 3:00 p.m. if you want to help cook. If you want to serve, come around 4:00. The youth who are helping serve need to be dropped off at 4:00 and picked up at 5:15.
As we did at Thanksgiving, once again we’ll work with our sisters and brothers from Beulah Baptist Church and will serve our guests at tables, restaurant-style, rather than through a cafeteria line. We’ll also have Christmas presents to hand out, hopefully something for everyone who comes for a meal. We need donations of mittens, hats, scarves, for all ages. If you’d like to donate money for this, you can do it through the church as a designated offering or give money to Ruth Holland, who can buy such items wholesale.
Also, this coming Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church the choir will have its final full rehearsal for the Christmas Cantata next Sunday.

THANKS!
Last Sunday’s Christmas pageant, featuring a large contingent of our children and youth, was a great blessing. Thanks to all our young performers. As some adults commented, it was wonderful to see some of them who are shy about reading before an audience overcome their shyness to tell us the story of our Lord’s birth. Others noted that for some of these young people who have joined our congregation fairly recently, the story was new to them, and it was moving to see them present it with such a fresh perspective.
Thanks also to the adults who made this possible: Anne Whirley (director), Rodney Rastall (assistant director, lighting and sound); Mickey Eubanks (set director, including builder of the crèche); Jean Walsh (crowd control, especially the angels); Jody McClendon and crew (music); and Tom Walsh (author of the script).
THANKS ALSO TO MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION WHO CAME TO SUPPORT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE!
LOOKING AHEAD
On the Sunday after Christmas, Dec. 27, Tom Walsh, assisted by Tom and Jean’s daughter Meredith (who will be home for the holidays), will bring our sermon.
Our pulpit guest on Sunday, Jan. 3, will be Rev. Rachel Woodall. Rev. Woodall is Associate Pastor of Kingsway Christian Church. A native Memphian, she graduated from Yale University in 1980 with a B.A. in Religious Studies. In 1986 she earned her J.D. degree and worked as an attorney, and in 1994 she graduated magna cum laude from Memphis Theological Seminary with an M. Div. degree. Before joining the staff at Kingsway, Rev. Woodall served as the senior pastor of Graceland Christian Church from 1996 until 2008. She was the first woman in her denomination (Disciples of Christ) to serve as a senior minister in this area. Rachel has two children, Julie (20) and Scott (19).
