As Marise communicated earlier, Susan Baldwin's mother went to the ER this morning with possible heart issues.  Her name is Janet Baldwin.  She's at Baptist DeSoto, now in a regular room (624).  If you want to speak with Susan, her cell is 605-7704.  (Susan gave me permission to pass on her number and said she'd be glad to take calls as long as she's in a place where they can be received.)  She plans to stay overnight with her mom.  Ross and Adam are being taken care of.

Here's a little more detail:  Mrs. Baldwin, who hasn't had known heart problems before, was experiencing chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, and weakness.  The symptoms became severe enough that she asked a neighbor to take her to the hospital, where they did a chest X-ray and a CAT scan.  Her lab work was OK.  She is receiving medication for pain, though she's still uncomfortable.  More tests are set for tomorrow, possibly including a stress test.  A cardiologist with whom Susan has some connections will serve as a consult.

Mrs. Baldwin will be 66 on Wednesday.

Susan greatly appreciates our prayers and support.  Already she has heard from church members.  She said at time like these, she is especially aware of the importance of having a church family to whom she is close.

Since 2003, Ms. Harris has been assigned to the Memphis Division of the FBI where she conducts Civil Rights investigations.  Those investigations include Color of Law/police misconduct, Hate Crimes, Human Trafficking, as well as other programs. Ms. Harris was the primary bureau investigator on a Human Trafficking case (worked jointly with ICE) whereby a 13-year-old Oaxacan girl was trafficked from Mexico to the United States and forced into sexual slavery.  The investigation resulted in 12 indictments and the man defendant, JUAN MENDEZ being sentenced to 50 years in federal prison.

This meeting is free and open to the public. There will be a Q & A session.

PRESCOTT CHURCH NEWS

November 17, 2009

NEWS JUST RECEIVED

Let us pray for Cindy Foree and her family following the death of Cindy’s mother, Donna June Reed, last Thursday.  The funeral was Sunday.  If you’d like to contact Cindy, her address is 7190 Butterfly Dr., Bartlett TN 38133-6142, phone 382-5429.

Also pray for Susan Baldwin’s mother Janet Baldwin, who will undergo a heart catheterization sometime after 3:00 p.m. today at Baptist DeSoto.

Note below that the Special Events Committee will meet this Sunday.

The IAM Store has a new stock of Christmas items.  Now through Christmas, IAM is open 11 to 2 on Saturdays, 12 to 1:30 Sundays, and 5 to 6 Wednesdays.  Tell friends.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS

SATURDAY, NOV. 21

6:30 p.m.        GLBT meets

SUNDAY, NOV. 22: Christ the King Sunday

10:45 a.m.      During worship we’ll offer a multi-lingual Call to Worship; dedicate the Prayer Shawls that some of our members and friends have been making; and receive an offering for Neighborhood Outreach.  The Scripture text is John 18:33-37.  Join us for Coffee Talk after worship in Fellowship Hall.

This Sunday we’ll also welcome some dear friends from Australia who’ll be visiting us, the Dyers:  Keith, Lynne, Daniel, and Reuben.  The Dyers attended Prescott some ten years ago when Keith was teaching at MTS.

12:15 p.m.      Special Events Committee will meet in the Conference Room to make Thanksgiving plans.

7:00 p.m.        All University Cluster Church members are invited to a contemporary community Thanksgiving service in Fellowship Hall at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 480 S. Highland, celebrating Thanksgiving and featuring our favorite "turkey" to which we’ll attach Food Pantry offerings.

TUESDAY, NOV. 24

6:30 p.m.        We’ll have our 26th annual Thanksgiving dinner in Fellowship Hall, with the combined congregations of Prescott, Beulah Baptist, and the Unitarian Fellowship.  We generally have a huge crowd for this potluck feast, so bring plenty of food – more than just for yourself.  As is our custom, we’ll pray and sing and talk, and of course eat.

WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY, NOV. 25-27

As we’ll be partied out from the previous day’s feast, we’ll have no Wed. dinner or program, and the church office will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

SATURDAY, NOV. 28

Come to St. Luke’s Methodist at 3:00 p.m. (or earlier if you can help cook) to help serve Saturday Supper.  We expect an even larger than usual crowd for this event, which will feature Thanksgiving turkey and all the trimmings.  Instead of the usual cafeteria line, we’ll serve our guests at tables.  Our sisters and brothers from Beulah Baptist will be there to work with us, once again partners in Christ.  People of all ages can help.  The youth are asked to arrive at 4:00 p.m. and to arrange to be picked up at 5:15 p.m.

NOTE:  It will be our turn to do Saturday Supper next on Dec. 19, the Saturday before Christmas.  Once again we’ll serve our guests at tables, and in addition we’ll have Christmas presents to hand out.  We especially need donations of mittens, hats, scarves, for all ages.  If you’d like to donate money for this, you can do it through the church as a designated offering or give money to Ruth Holland, who can buy such items wholesale.

ADVENT:  A TIME OF PREPARATION

During all four Sundays of Advent, as a fundraiser the youth will sell sausage biscuits at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall, as Sunday School begins.

SUNDAY, NOV. 29:  FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

10:45 a.m.      In worship we’ll Light the first of the Advent candles.  We’ll receive an offering for ABC Retired Ministers and Missionaries.  The Scripture texts are Jeremiah 33:14-16 and Luke 21:25-36.  Also this day, we’ll begin receiving $3 Angel Tree donations in honor or memory of persons.  Angel Tree beneficiaries will be students at three schools:  Nancy Gray’s, Joyce Wood’s, and Prescott’s Adopt-A-School, Sherwood Elementary.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 2

Prescott's Colin Baker will appear in the musical Grease at his school (Appling Middle), time to be announced.

SATURDAY, DEC. 5

5:00 p.m.        Children ages 3 through 12 will meet in the church parking lot and drive to Starry Nights.  The church will pay for the children.  Please let Ruth Holland know if you can help with transportation.

SUNDAY, DEC. 6:  SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

10:45 a.m.      The Scripture texts are Malachi 3:1-4 and Luke 3:1-6.

SATURDAY, DEC. 12

6:00 p.m.        Young people in Grades 6-12 will come to the church for Game Night, featuring food, fun, and games.  Youth, arrange to be picked up no later than 8:30 p.m.  Adults, let the church office know if you can help.  NOTE:  Youth must participate in some fundraising/service opportunities in order to be eligible for “Just for Fun” events.

SUNDAY, DEC. 13

10:45 a.m.      The children and youth will present an original Christmas play in worship.

SATURDAY, DEC. 19
