Hi Toby
That is a great question!
A short and probably good answer may be, what the council and staff of
the presbytery want the focus to be, plus or minus what the
constituency of the presbytery end up using it for anyway! I think
there is something "anarchical" about internet groups. :-)
My hope, as someone who is going to fade from being initial
coordinator of these groups, and simply a user of them, is that this
group would support any relevant, public discussion about odds and
ends in the presbytery which are not specially covered in the other
groups (earth, poverty, worship...perhaps others on the way).
So, here could be a discussion about presbytery mission statement,
structure, meeting announcements, welcome of new leaders and pastors
in the presbytery, questions when you don't know whom to ask, with
hopefully some answers. The group would be one communications medium
for making the presbytery go, along with its web site,
listservers...all simply as an adjunct to face-to-face meetings and
phone calls, etc.!
Example. "Does anyone know which churches have done PDA work in the
gulf? Our church is thinking about going and we'd like to contact a
couple churches that have gone."
Now, that could be a question also by phone to the missions chair of
the presbytery. So we'll have to see how helpful this is or not.
Thanks!
Scott
