The Rockin'1000 is a musical project, originally created in Italy. Over a thousand musicians play and sing simultaneously at their concerts, with setlists composed mainly from well known rock music from different decades. The group was originally assembled in July 2015 as a way to ask the Foo Fighters to visit the town of Cesena, Italy.[1][2]Originally organized in a crowdfunding effort by Fabio Zaffagnini, the Rockin'1000 have made several subsequent appearances, and have been dubbed the "biggest band in the world".[3][4] Their initial performance in 2015 was made under the direction of Marco Sabiu.[5]
In reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the group was enlisted to perform John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" for the opening of the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.[7][8] The performance was pre-recorded in Piazza San Carlo, and was later continued by the live audience at the PalaOlimpico singing along, supported by the contest's co-presenters Alessandro Cattelan and Mika.[9]
On 1 October 2022, Rockin'1000 performed on Allianz Parque in So Paulo in front of an audience of more than 30,000 spectators, on their first concert in South America. Among the performers there were musicians from previous concerts and new members from Brazil. Artists such as Supla and Srgio Dias were invited to participate and host the concert.
The initiative came about when Talya Yarom, veteran producer of outdoor events, kept looking for ways to help the families of the hostages, who are advocating to bring their loved ones back from captivity.
Yarom published an open-call audition on her social media, and to her surprise nearly 2,000 musicians signed up. Ultimately, only 1,000 music artists ended up participating in the performance, and they were divided into groups based on the instruments they play.

There may be no more moving things in this world Heartfelt loss and the uplifting power of music. Fortunately, we got a bit of both over this past weekend when over 1,000 musicians gathered in Paris at the Stade de France for a Rockin' 1000 concert that was highlighted by an impactful tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
While the concert featured musicians from 25 countries gathering together to perform classics from The Who, Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine and Guns N' Roses among others, it was their salute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins on "My Hero" that stole the show.
It's also no surprise at all that Foo Fighters would be included somewhere in their setlist, as the whole "Rockin' 1000" idea was birthed in late 2014, and realized in early 2015 when 1,000 musicians gathered together to learn and perform Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly" in hopes of catching the eye of Dave Grohl and receiving a Foos show in Cesena, Italy. The viral video did catch the band's eye and achieve the goal of getting the Foo Fighters to Cesena, with some of the band members being invited to play with them.
The Foo Fighters association continued with Rockin' 1000 organizing a cover of the Foo Fighters then new song "Saint Cecilia" as well. Over time, the idea has expanded to include more performances, and the Saturday show (May 21) in Paris marked their first performance in nearly three years.
For this performance, Alex Deschamps served as conductor for the massive undertaking. And while many of the performers were not known names, Fever 333's Aric Improta, Telephone drummer Richard Kolinka, French instrumentalist M and radio host Emilie Mazoyer were among those on hand to participate in the show.
The choice of "My Hero" was a poignant one for the group, as Hawkins' beats in the live setting definitely pushed the song forward and the drummer himself served as an inspiration to many. The tributes since Hawkins' March 25 death have been plentiful, but this one should end up being one of the more memorable ones due to its size and scope. Check out the Rockin' 1000 performance of "My Hero," and check out the gallery below to view just how big an undertaking this production was.
Blabbermouth reported Rockin' 1000 celebrated their eighth birthday by performing the Guns masterpiece, with the group explaining it's made up of "Amateurs, professionals, volunteers, kids men, women, no matter their provenance, ethnicity, sexual orientation or social background, what matters is to play music and love each other."
As reported by NME, the Rockin' 1000 collective - calling themselves "the biggest rock band on Earth" due to the number of members - celebrated its 8th birthday on July 14th. To mark the occasion, musicians from 25 countries performed the Guns N' Roses classic "Paradise City" at Stade De France in Paris, France. Check it out below.
Rockin' 1000: "In 2015, 1,000 Rockers performed simultaneously 'Learn To Fly' by the Foo Fighters in Cesena, Italy. The video got more than 32 million views and the Foos actually held a concert in town! Since then we organize concerts with 1,000 musicians playing together the songs that made the glorious History of Rock!"
Michael Lang, the organiser and co-creator of Woodstock, died on 8th January 2022 aged 77. Lang passed away at Sloan Kettering hospital in New York City following a battle with a rare form of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Lang co-founded and organised Woodstock Music and Art Fair in Bethel, New York from 15th to 18th August 1969 - an event that became firmly entrenched into rock n' roll folklore and boasted performances from The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Sly and the Family Stone, The Band and Jimi Hendrix to name but a few. Lang went on to organise the 25th anniversary event in 1994 and the ill-fated 30th anniversary celebration, Woodstock '99. He also owned and ran the record label Just Sunshine Records, founded the Michael Lang Organization (MLO), and he managed and produced a diverse array of artists including Billy Joel, Joe Cocker and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
