Does anyone know which credit card is better to subscribe Netflix or Hulu out of US bank Altitude Connect or Amex Platinum? Netflik has upgraded subscription for HD view for $19.99/month. Does either of these card pay full fees for the subscription? Your opinions please...Thanku

I have both cards- Amex Platinum and US bank Altitude Connect, but not sure which one I should use for my subscription with Netflik and Hulu...I don't watch both, very rarely Netflik, but since I am paying such hefty AF I think I should get the advantage of my benefits thru these fees/perks....

I renewed my Netflix subscription a couple months ago. Of course I can watch Netflix on my iPhone, my MacBook, and on my HD televison set which has an Apple TV attached to it. Each month, Netlix charges me a monthly fee. However, the monthly fee is automatically deducted through my iTunes account using the available credit I have on there. (Yes, I carry a balance of anywhere from $40 to $75 on iTunes for the **** of it.) I do NOT want my iTunes credit to be touched. I'd rather have iTunes/AppleTV/Netflix take the monthly fee from a credit card. I do have a credit card on file for my iTunes account, after all. Why should it default to my credit balance? How do I work around this?

If you want to be charged via your credit card then if you cancel your iTunes subscription then I think that you can subscribe through Netflix themselves and then link your devices to that - before you do that you may want to check Netlfix's help pages that it's possible to do and/or whether you can restart your existing subscription via them

We are not Netflix members, and I don't remember signing up for a membership, so I called my CC folks and retrieved a phone number associated with that transaction, then called up Netflix at that number.

I asked her what a Netflix transaction normally appears as on a member's CC statement, because "NETFLIX NONE" seemed like a strange phrase. I googled "NETFLIX NONE" and couldn't find anything relevant.

Never seen a specific city listed in ours - yours does seem weird. What did Netflix say when you told them what the transaction said? (I mean, did they say, ours wouldn't say that, or ours might say that?)

We had a similar thing with "Apple iTunes". I kept yelling (figuratively) at the kids for buying songs without asking and they swore up and down they didn't. Frankly, it was too much effort to try and figure out who was telling the truth for a few $.99 charges here and there. With the occasional $2.99 charge thrown in it added up to $92 over the course of 15 months or so. I finally got fed up and called the CC company and determined that it was fraud.

I have heard somewhere, that the identity thieves will usually start off with smaller amounts as stated above to make sure the info they have is valid and the card works. Eventually, they try to get larger amounts.

Definitely sounds fishy. I would do what you already planned. Everytime I have something weird happen with my card I cancel and order a new one with different number. Its worth the 30min of updating varias things with a new card number versus taking the chance of having a large number of bogus charges popping up.

Absolutely, shut down that cc # and get a new one. Best to keep the bank liable for all fraud charges and keep yourself in the clear. Low charges are a way to test a card and then WHAM, you get a $1000 phone bill from London. Happened to me.

I have a credit card that I only use for internet purchases. Today, I got the email/call from my bank telling me that they are sending me a new one. Seems someone tested it at a hotel in PA for $8.75 this morning. This is why I have a dedicated cc for use on-line.

That is exactly how it worked on our cc. We had a couple netflix charges, we called and had them taken off, but a month or two later we had a bill for a hotel in Spain. I would call and cancel ASAP. Within a year of that happening, our checking account was hacked. Someone was able to electronically cash a check from our account. That really sucked, so keep an eye on everything. Not sure if the 2 were connected, but I would keep a close eye on everything.

As it happens, my credit card was in fact compromised back in January; there were a few fraudulent charges, but AmEx reversed them and overnighted me a new card, and the whole matter was over and done with. the new credit card number is only about a month old.

My bill on my credit card statement reads "Netflix None" Los Gatos, and has for a long time. In Quicken it downloads as "Netflix" but under the memo each month is a series of numbers followed by the word "NONE." I have not noticed any odd charges on any of my accounts...I check them two or three times a week after having various cards compromised over the years. I dunno what the "NONE" means, but I don't think it's a problem.

Last February I gave my uncle a year's subscription to Netflix as a birthday present and I paid it in full. Today he called me and said his Netflix wouldn't work because there was a problem with the credit card on file. About a month ago I had my cc company reissue the card because of a suspected fraud issue. I found out today that you need a valid cc # on file with Netflix because they test it every month - even if the account is prepaid. That doesn't seem right that they can force you to do that but I'm sure at some point in signing up I clicked "accept" to three pages of terms and conditions.

I've been trying to sign up for Netflix using my Paypal account, but every time I go through the process of signing up it say's I need to enter a credit card.

I have a confirmed linked bank account and was hoping to use that, but it keeps insisting on a credit card, which I dont have as of yet. There has to be a way to do this, whats the point of paying through paypal if it's just going to use your credit card anyway?

I feel your pain. I was just on the phone with paypal and netflix, each blaming the other, each saying it should be no problem to use a bank acct linked with paypal acct to pay for netflix but the problem remains. I hate using my overused credit card for this and netflix shouldn't advertise this payment option if it doesn't actually work. Frustrating. Especially since I am now a confirmed Netflix addict.

I have had Netflix for about a year now. I have never used a credit card as I dont have any. I have my paypal linkied to my bank account and have never had a problem until last month. Now I am being asked by Paypal to link a credit card for some reason. I called paypal and they say that netflix is the one asking and not them. But i find that funny because its in my paypal account that its asking from. I also tried to purchase online yesterday(which i have also done with no problems before) and it did the same thing. I am getting frustrated becuase I keep getting the run around from paypal.

Netflix does not allow you to remove your card information from the account. A hacker can hijack your account and replace contact details with theirs. Then they can subscribe to Netflix and enjoy all at your cost. This is not hypothetical. It happened to me and may be waiting to happen to you. Have you have faced a similar situation? I had a old free trial Netflix account that I was not using for a long time. Unfortunately, when I was on travel, a hacker subscribed to a premium service from my account. There were a couple of emails from Netflix on phone and email updates but the damage was already done. I could only get partial information such as

Then I had to talk to Netflix customer support for hours to reclaim my own account. If hackers were subjected to such long duration conversations to achieve their goals then I sincerely feel they would not hack.

Despite causing financial harm, Netflix chose to hide the details of this hacker. With no action taken against hackers, they are indirectly motivated by Netflix to scout around and look for more people without any penalty.

  1. Netflix does not securely handle your card transactions: Netflix did not validate through OTP or CVC during the transaction. They cannot secure your card at least they need not save your card information for hackers to prey on.
  2. Remove your credit card from the account: I contacted customer care and after a long conversation, they removed credit card from my account. So, removing your card is hidden but doable.
  3. Provide a expendable credit card: I know credit card companies handle fraud complaints but that is another prolonged journey. But they also cancel your credit cards and try to issue a new one. Indirectly this is a denial of service in security terms. You cannot use your card for a week or 10 days. So, make sure you provide a credit card that you are not depending for your daily transactions.
