Plot-wise, the musical essentially mirrors the movie: Aditi (Salena Qureshi), on the rebound from an affair with her married boss, Vikram (Manik Singh Anand), is diving into an arranged marriage with Hemant (Deven Kolluri), a banker from Hoboken, N.J.; her mother, Pimmi (Palomi Ghosh), is stress-smoking; her father, Lalit (Gagan Dev Riar), is basically breaking the bank on the wedding; her happily unmarried cousin Ria (Sharvari Deshpande) is making plans to go to NYU; and the event planner, PK Dubey (scene-stealer Namit Das), suddenly has his eye on the maid, Alice (the wonderful Anisha Nagarajan, of Bombay Dreams and the most recent Company on Broadway).

"Monsoon Wedding" simultaneously portrays several stories spreading across several multidimensional characters. Be it a case of developing identity, the dynamics of an ageing couple, or brewing romance, the film shows it all with the backdrop of a big, fat Indian wedding. However, we notice the discomfort Shefali Shah's character Ria feels in the presence of her uncle, Tej, played by Rajat Kapoor. The climax in which she bursts out in order to save a younger relative and discloses the instances of the abuse she faced is extremely intense and grim.

After visiting India in 2008 and falling in love with it, Indian weddings hold a special place in my heart. I feel so fortunate to capture the love, emotions, traditions and rituals that go along with them! It was an incredible honor to photograph the beautiful Bengali wedding of Mousumi and Sascha at Ma Maison, one of my favorite venues in Dripping Springs. Even though the weather did not cooperate and everything had to be rearranged and moved indoors it was still a spectacular wedding. Enjoy the photos of this magical day and read the couples love story below!

The origin of Hindu marriage rituals date back to the ancient Vedic times. One of the oldest Vedic traditions, still prevalent, is the taking of marriage vows in front of Agni, the God of Fire. Along with the Homa (sacred Fire), the priest, the Divine, family members and guests bear witness to the union.

The ceremony takes place in the Mandap (wedding pavilion), which is built to represent the Universe. (Photo on the left @ Jerry Hayes Photography). Gorgeous draping and decor is by Unique Design and Events.

As for hobbies, we are into rowing, yoga, gallivanting around the globe, camping, watching movies, being foodies, and loving and laughing about life! We also love our little Eskimo dog, Tulsi. She was at our wedding too!

Everybody loves a wedding, and that is a universal truth. Even the ones that sulk and do not attend weddings, have queries and questions regarding the ceremony afterwards. It is just the environment, and the food of course that make these shindigs, the place to be. As is the case with most other Indian states, Bengal has its own culture and traditional richness that is present even in their weddings. You will experience in depth when you actually visit the place and taste its food, meet its people and smell the air! So, we believe the best way to introduce you to Bengali cuisine is by telling you about the food items that feature prominently in their weddings! The following list is full of dishes that you must have at Bengali weddings.advertisement

The shingara (samosa) is a very popular Indian street food. You will rarely find an Indian who has not eaten a samosa ever. Every state has a different interpretation of it and Bengal is no exception. They add their own dash of Bengal to it by using mustard oil, red chilies, gingers and a few different varieties of spices. At Bengali weddings, the shingara is sometimes offered as a snack when the guests have just started arriving. If it is a winter wedding, then expect delicious aloo fulkopir shingaras (samosas stuffed with mouth-watering potato and cauliflower mix). Sounds better than your regular fare of pakodas, right?advertisement

Bengal as a state is known for its love for fishes and sweets. But, they also harbour great love for the humble eggplant. Nothing professes it better than their begun bhaja or fried eggplant dish. This is a frequently offered starter at Bengali weddings. It is usually served during the afternoon bhoj, with dal and bhaat. It is either coated with besan and deep fried, or marinated in turmeric, salt and shallow fried. Either way it tastes heavenly! Mishti Doiadvertisement

Sweets and Bengal have had a longer relationship than even Tagore and Bengal! The sweets of Bengal are probably the best that India has to offer and mishti doi is one of their most famous. It is made with gur (molasses) and thick creamy milk. Unsweetened curd is added to it to give the whole thing some texture and thickness. This sweet dish is definitely one of the favourites for all Bengalis. Must Read: 11 Homemade Yoghurt Face Packs To Get Glowing And Healthy Skin #10.
