Subject: T-shirt purchasing follow up
To:
kj...@georgetown.eduDear Student Leaders,
We are writing to follow up on the T-shirt purchasing survey that many of you completed earlier this year. The survey results indicated that many student organizations are interested in purchasing ethically produced T-shirts when ordering shirts for their activities and events during the year.
To support this interest and provide a convenient way for student organizations to place orders, Georgetown is organizing a clearinghouse arrangement to simplify the process and obtain bulk pricing through consolidating orders. A local print shop will obtain T-shirts from the Alta Gracia apparel line, screen print the shirts, and ship them to student organizations on campus. The price per shirt will vary depending on the quantity of the order and printing specifications. In general, the price per shirt will be between $8.25 and $11.40.
The creation of Alta Gracia has been a revolutionary development in the global apparel industry. Located in a small town in the Dominican Republic, the Alta Gracia factory pays its workers a living wage that is more than three times the national minimum wage. In addition to this salary, the company respects its employees’ rights as workers and as human beings, including the right to a safe and healthy workplace, the right to be treated with dignity and respect on the job, and the right to form a union.
As you may know, Georgetown has supported Alta Gracia by granting it an official license to produce and sell apparel featuring the University’s name and logo. For the last few years, Alta Gracia’s apparel has been sold prominently in the Georgetown bookstore.
If you will be purchasing T-shirts during the remainder of this academic year and are interested in ordering from Alta Gracia, please contact Cal Watson at
jc...@georgetown.edu. He can explain the details of the ordering process and connect you with the print shop.
