YoungJustice is an Emmy Award winning American animated television series created by Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman for Cartoon Network. Despite its title, it is not a direct adaptation of Peter David, Todd Dezago and Todd Nauck's Young Justice comic series, but rather an adaptation of the entire DC Universe with a focus on young superheroes. The series follows the lives of teenaged heroes and sidekicks who are members of a fictional covert operation group called The Team. The Team is essentially a young counterpart to the famous adult team, the Justice League. The main setting is the fictional universe of Earth-16, during a time period in which superheroes are a relatively recent phenomenon. The series debuted with an hour long special on November 26, 2010 with the airing of the first two episodes, "Independence Day" and "Fireworks". Young Justice premiered on September 9, 2011 on Teletoon, in Canada. The series ended alongside fellow DC Nation show Green Lantern: The Animated Series after its second season came to a conclusion during spring 2013. Because of this, their slots will be taken by new shows Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go!, respectively.
I know I'm jumping ahead of the official airings of episodes but I managed to see up to 25 in Spanish with English subtitles and wanted to discuss.
First off Icon, Plastic Man, Atom, Red Arrow and Dr. Fate officially join the Justice League and Rocket joins 'The Team'. Right off the bat it looks like there's going to be flirting between Rocket and Aqualad. I'm happy that he's finally getting the chance to have a romantic relationship, specially since Tula picked Garth. I just almost feel like they brought her in because she's black and they wanted two black characters to be dating. Then again having why shouldn't two black characters date, plus Icon join the Justice League is awesome and therefore having Rocket join 'The Team' makes perfect sense.
They reveal that the mole was Roy Harper all along, though it appears he was under some kind of mental control (from Queen Bee maybe). And they reveal what the Secret Society of Supervillains plan has been all along (or at least since they got a sample of that starfish thing which does appear to be a reinterpretation of Starro). Red Arrow, planted little control nodules from Starro on each member of the Justice League so the Secret Society now controls the Justice League. I still don't know if I buy that Starro could affect all the League members I mean shouldn't people like Red Tornado or Captain Atom be immune?
As for the team's various secrets; Artemis being related to Sportsmaster and Cheshire (which Robin of course knew), M'Gann being a white martian (which apparently Superboy knew since their mission in the Bialyan desert where they all lost their memories) and Superboy being part Superman and part Lex Luthor (which everybody watching should have known but was still a good reveal to the team) were all outed. I liked that these people were friends and once one secret started coming out they all confessed and made a plan to take down the bad guys, I still think it was a little rushed. I just hope there are more secrets in the second season cuz I really enjoyed the teases of Miss Martian and Artemis hiding who they really were. They really could have saved the Superboy thing for the second season though.
Apart of me is really angry I read this but the other part is really happy I did. I really like the outcome of all this save for Roy being the mole. That was dumb. I like Roy, he's NOT a bad guy. I wanted aqualad to have been the mole.. i dislike him :
I really liked it. Cheshire is hands down my favourite villain. Miss Martian's reveal in image gave her way more depth and actually made me appreciate her more, so her struggles with her secret identify were very well handled.
1.- Look at me, I just ruined the emotion of all this and next month and watched them all on a row, now I feel SO BAD but SO GOOD at same time, but anyway I'm used to, you know usual teenage symptom. Looking at a good side, now I have a bunch of ideas for fan-art >:D
Well since everyone here knows what's going on in the next few episodes, I dont feel bad. I found it interesting that Superboy said he knew what Miss Martian looked like since Bialya, so I went back to the episode "Bereft" to see it for myself. I guess a lot of people noticed this, but I totally overlooked this clip. Look at this:
This entire season was so well planned. I love how the writers went back to small things in the beginning season, and showed that they are still important to the plot near the end. I totally overlooked this picture when I first watched the show, but there it is. Superboy did know. So cool! I cannot wait for the next season! :D
They survived the schemes of The Light and saved the Earth from the Reach invasion. But this season on Young Justice: Outsiders, the team will face its greatest challenge yet. Kidnapped teens are being transformed into superpowered weapons! Metahuman trafficking is a terrifying threat to a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy. Now Nightwing, Superboy, Miss Martian, Tigress, Aqualad and Black Lightning will need help from a new group of young heroes to save the world from the war games of Super-Villains controlling the system from the inside. What's needed is a team of Outsiders.
It also must be noted that self-published authors have been responsible for a new subtitling trend where fiction is concerned. Because they have less regard for the traditional way of doing things, and because they tend to be more experimental and bigger risk-takers, many indie novelists have started incorporating keywords into the novel subtitles in the way that memoirists and self-help authors are encouraged to do. This is an interesting case study from a book out on Time Square Publishing. The print version is listed as: Paladine (Paladine Anti-terrorism series) (Volume 1) while the Kindle version is listed as: Political Thriller: PALADINE, an American Assassin: a terrorism, vigilante justice and assassination suspense thriller (Paladine Political Thriller Series Book 1) Kindle Edition. Undoubtedly this choice was based on the idea that Kindle readers would be typing keywords into Amazon or their Amazon app.
Although there wasn't much new information revealed about the upcoming season beyond that title, thanks to the new moniker we can have some fun playing around with just what Phantoms could mean... especially as the subtitle Outsiders had a huge role in the third season. There's no word yet on Young Justice: Phantom's release date, but we're going to dive into some of our favorite theories here, from the most likely to the most ridiculous! But be warned: Spoilers for Young Justice Seasons 1-3 follow!
After taking down a Meta-Human trafficking ring, the Young Justice team has built up an impressive army of enemies. And now, with Brion, a.k.a. Geo-Force, under the control of supervillain team The Light, it would be easy for Young Justice to be compromised. Being framed for a crime you didn't commit is an age-old comic book trope, and it would set the team up for a conflict as they clear their own names and work as ghosts in the system.
There's also another option, which is that Amanda Waller needs their help and pushes them underground in order to gain it. Tonally, either plot works in favor of Young Justice's grounded and complex approach to superhero storytelling.
During the second season of Young Justice it was revealed that Jason Todd had died under unknown circumstances at some point in the past. As any DC fan knows, that is never truly the case when it comes to Jason. During the first half of Outsiders when the team was infiltrating Infinity Island, they came across a red-hooded ninja who moaned, "Grayson." The implication was, of course, that the ninja was actually Jason Todd, his garments a nod to his post-Robin mantle (in the comics) of Red Hood. Though we didn't discover his fate last season, it would make sense he might come into play in Phantoms.
Jason's death has always weighed heavily on Dick. Seeing as the ex-Robin was thought to be dead, he would be a very literal representation of the new subtitle. And if Red Hood does become a threat, it seems like it won't be as a new criminal mastermind but as some kind of Ra's al Ghul reanimated version of himself. Could that mean the Phantoms in question might be an army of the heroes' late loved ones revived to hunt them down and terrorize them? It would be a dark route to take but would play into one of DC Comics' favorite plotlines and recurring characters.
Her first appearance in a 1961 issue of Action Comics leaned into the youthful team adventures that are usually connected with Young Justice. She headed to Earth along with other young cosmic heroines Triplicate Girl and Saturn Girl to befriend Supergirl. That's not to say we'll see that scenario exactly--though it would be fun--but more to highlight that she's already got a history of hanging out with other young heroes. Seeing as the Legion is almost certainly going to play into Phantoms based on that ring reveal, it seems unlikely that Phantom Girl won't be a part of that in some way. This could also possibly connect to the next entry as some say her home planet is a part of...
From that online table read, which was set between Seasons 3 and 4, we know that Conner/Superboy (Nolan North) and M'gann/Miss Martian (Danica McKellar) are heading out on their own. Perhaps the partially-Kryptonian clone will come up against some inhabitants of the Phantom Zone? Both those alien characters have a history of dealing with the cosmic, so it would be an easy connection to make, especially as Conner has such a complex past. Maybe the Phantom Zoners are out for Superman's blood and don't realize his clone is just that, a clone? Or could M'gann and Conner end up in the Phantom Zone themselves? It would be a really interesting and exciting twist to see the Young Justice team have to head into the notoriously strange dimension to save their former teammates.
