As salamu alaykum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuhu,

In sha Allah, I think you will see the images, now.  Please let me know if the images do not appear correctly.

Alhamdolillah, adding hyperlinked images to Al Maghrib Forum posts was much easier.  The code below is slightly updated from what I have used so far on the web site.  Please feel free to use it in your posts.  The more people visit the site, the more it will grow and become more useful, in sha Allah.

Please note that the code above will only work correctly if that forum allows hyperlinks and images.  Some of the forums turn those features off -- you can tell by looking at the bottom of the page.  Let  me know if the code does not work for you.

The icon question is a very interesting one.  The idea of the liwaa' or rayaa as icons is worth exploring.  The test would be how well such icons could be drawn, and how well they would appear in smaller and larger sizes.  The current icon is meant to evoke the imagery of Surah Nur.  It has some advantages over the default red icon, but it is not very well drawn.  I know -- I drew it.  Maybe another possibility is a better drawn lamp that comes to a point at the bottom center.

Google Maps is releasing a new feature that will allow us to display different icons depending on the zoom level.  So, we could use one icon that takes up less space at low zoom levels and another, larger and easier to spot icon at high zoom levels.

Right now we use only one icon, so, at low zoom levels, icons obscure the map -- look at New Zealand and you will see it covered up entirely in jamat icons, alhamdolillah.  But when the map is saturated in icons, using the map as a navigation tool becomes difficult.  On the other hand, I tried using much smaller icons, too, and finding the small icons was much more difficult at high zoom levels -- on city street level maps.

Jazak Allah khair for your input!

As salamu alaykum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatuhu,
