Dear Prayer Supporters,
A few quick highlights about April, which passed like a whirlwind:
1. After I came back from Oregon at the end of March, I fell for a big
flu. I was unable to even get up from my bed for almost a week. It
has been almost 10 years since I last fell sick to this degree of
seriousness. My schedule was originally quite packed for that week,
but I guess God wanted me to take a break.
2. I led two rather alternative worship gatherings at my home church
during the Holy Week. One was a foot washing and eucharist worship
for Maundy Thursday, and the other one was a scripture meditation
gathering for Good Friday afternoon. Both were relatively
unprecedented in my church's tradition.
3. AFC posted on
www.pp959.com a series of online multimedia
devotional guides for the Holy Week called "8 Days." It was actually
a project that I did last year for my doctoral program. The
devotional guide was well received, and many people reflected to us
that it was really helpful and resourceful, including people from
overseas locations.
4. In the third week of April I travelled to Toronto for a retreat
(and a series of meetings) with leaders from the AFC Toronto staff
team. It was a good time of fellowship and prayer, and together we
envisioned the future of AFC and student movement. You will see new
plans being implemented very soon.
5. I will enter into the most critical phase of my thesis writing in
May. For the next two months I plan to finish the theological core of
my doctoral thesis. Please support me with your prayer in this
particular area.
6. Many people asked me about the financial situation at AFC
Vancouver, so please allow me to share a bit on that. As predicted,
it is not a pretty picture. For the first time in 2009, we have not
been able to issue paychecks to staff members for both pay periods in
April. With the help of our Toronto headquarter, we eventually solved
the problem for now, but the deficit is still overwhelming.
Therefore, as you may be receiving your tax refund soon, I encourage
you to invest your tax refund money to the ministry at AFC for the
Kingdom of God. At the time of financial difficulty, we need even
more faithful followers who can sacrifice for God amidst of tests and
trials.
Thanks again for your continuous support. I truly appreciate your
every single prayer.
In Christ,
Alan Yu
