Dear Prayer Supporters,

I remember that the first few days of 2010 was spent reacting to the
sad news of the death of AFC's former Executive Director Benny Chin.
Uncle Benny was not only a former boss but also a personal mentor. We
received the news of his death on Jan 2, in the morning of the day
where a prayer meeting of AFC Staff old and new was scheduled. I
remember praying for Uncle Benny and his family together, setting up
his memorial corner in the office, flying back to Hong Kong to attend
his funeral, and organizing the memorial service in Vancouver. To me,
the pass away of Uncle Benny signifies the end of an era. The burden
of propelling the student movement in Canada has been rested on our
generation.

The beginning of 2011 signifies the beginning of the end of my
ministry at AFC. This year will, according to my plan and if God
permits, be my last year at AFC. I'll be gradually decreasing my
working hours and eventually retire from AFC completely by the end of
2011. And during this first week of the new year, we have a big clean
up in AFC's office and we rearrange the office furniture to help
facilitate new team dynamics and communications. I packed 10 boxes of
personal belongings accumulated over the last 10 years and move them
home. My legendary bunk bed in the office is also disassembled and
will be moved home.

As I watch my coworkers directing the move, I have a strong sense that
I am no longer part of this team. I will be handing over the baton,
and they will continue to flourish while I pursue another mission.
Frankly, I do not like this feeling. I still really want to be part
of AFC, part of this lovely team of talented young people, part of
this emerging student movement. But I know clearly that my mission to
serve them is going to end, and God will be giving me a new
assignment. I promised that I will nurture them a few years ago, and
now they have grown as I prayed. My mission is accomplished and I
must move on.

Nonetheless, it is difficult to let go. Emotionally this will be a
difficult year for me to lay down what I have hold dear for many years
and to do this alone. Please remember me in your prayer.

Blessings,
Alan Yu
