We are delighted to bring you exciting news from our partner, PRADAN.

About PRADAN - PRADAN is a leading not-for-profit organization that addresses issues of livelihoods and agency building for the poorest rural communities across 7 central and eastern states of India. It has partnered with more than 200,000 families in 4000 villages to enhance their assets, develop their agency and build their access to sustainable income opportunities.

In a first-of-its-kind partnership, PRADAN has collaborated with Ambedkar University Delhi and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust  to design and implement an innovative MPhil Program in Development Practice. This is not a traditional research based bridge degree, but  a unique, praxis based program. PRADAN and AUD have given the course a new scholar-practitioner interpretation, to be able to train talent that can partner with ultra poor communities for inclusive change.  The program is interdisciplinary, drawing from fields such as development studies, human ecology, human studies, cultural studies, gender studies, psychology, sociology, political philosophy, economics, biology, environmental studies and education. Its uniqueness lies in its immersion-based pedagogy, by way of which students spend 8 months in a rural setting. One of the key objectives of this course is to build the emotional resilience and empathy that young students need to work with the poor and excluded as partners in change.

The first cohort of the program in 2012 received 223 applications from students across varied disciplines with 25 students making the cut. Students of this program are  provided a stipend of Rs.12,000 per month and Rs.36,000 per year to cover other costs, adding up to a cumulative monthly stipend of Rs.15,000.  For further details on the program, please find attached the program brochure.

PRADAN is now inviting applications for the second cohort of this program. The deadline for sending in applications is 28th June, 2013. We request you to spread the word about the Program amongst your vast pool of connections.  For details on the program, please find attached the program brochure. You could visit the AUD (www.aud.ac.in) and PRADAN (www.pradan.net) websites for further information on the application process. Also, interested candidates can write to Barsha Mishra at barsha...@pradan.net.

Thank you very much for your support, as always!

Kind Regards,
Pallavi Deshpande
