When was the last time we personally made an effort to HUG/Give love to someone whom we don’t know, someone who does not outwardly look like us or some one who is so called “under privileged “. May be we need to think hard to remember that. Isn’t it?
Dear Friends,
I shall like to introduce you to one such noble and prestigious event earmarked in the Indian calendar termed as Joy of Giving Week.
The Joy of Giving Week' is a nationwide campaign (from 26th Sept to 2nd Oct). With a dream to make it an annual festival of giving, it was launched last year with massive participation from all over the country. It needs to become a festival, which is owned by the masses of India; right from the aam aadmi to a CEO, owner of a company, a school, college, corporate- anybody and everybody can become a part of this.
As a part of Prayaas, the student social body at VNIT (formerly VRCE )Nagpur, we took the initiative of spreading awareness about this activity at Nagpur. During this Giving week we were able to generate one full truck load of material, around Rs. 25000 and spread the message to more than 10000 people. There was also a surprise donation of Rs. one lac by a gentleman from Nagpur who gave the money to Goonj in a very dramatic way over an SMS. What it took from our side is a strong belief in the idea, little time from our “BUSY” Schedule and lot of dedication to the cause.
We enjoyed every moment being a part of this campaign last year whether it was about tapping morning Joggers, giving presentations to corporate, schools or mobilizing youths via various forums. With whatever meager contribution we could make we did and we felt the warmth of it. Students and volunteers from other Institutions like XLRI Jamshedpur, ISB Hyderabad had also done wonderful activities in their respective cities.
GOONJ is all set to organize VASTRA-SAMMAN & SCHOOL to SCHOOL campaigns across the country in this week. Let us all join to make it a mass movement. Please refer www.goonj.org for more details.
I have also marked a CC to Ruchika from Goonj Delhi, if you wish to directly contact the Team for more details about this PAN India campaign.
