You can activate Digital Editions on six computers or mobile devices with one Adobe ID. If you reach the limit, contact us to reset your activations. For more information about activation and content portability, see Adobe Digital Editions FAQ.

First, choose Library > Authorize Computer to make sure the Adobe ID used to authorize Digital Editions is correct. If it is correct, contact the eBook provider to reset the activation. See this troubleshooting guide for more information.

You can activate Digital Editions on six devices. If you switch machines or devices, you may get this error when you try to launch Digital Editions. See Authorization and launch errors for Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 on Windows.

You can open a book in Adobe Digital Editions by double-clicking the book file, or you can open Adobe Digital Editions, click File > Add to Library to add it to your Adobe Digital Editions library. Then, double-click the book in the library to open it.

Connect the supported eReader device to your computer and launch Digital Editions. Digital Editions automatically detects the presence of your device. Both Digital Editions and the device must be authorized to be able to transfer protected content to and from the device.

Unprotected content can be transferred to and from the device without authorizing either the device or Digital Editions. However Adobe strongly advises authorizing Digital Editions as it gives you content portability for your protected books, whether on Digital Editions or the supported device. After connection, the device appears in the library section.

To complete the Adobe Digital Editions installation process you will also need an Adobe ID, which is simply a username and password so that ADE can recognize your account. An Adobe ID will also enable multiple devices (up to 6), so that your e-book loans stay with you, no matter where you go.

What I am asking is whether there is a way to programmatically (from the command line is fine if Adobe Digital Editions supports CL args) use the ticket file to request a book from the library, and download it, in .epub form, to the local hard drive. I simply don't want my grandmother to have to go through all of the unneeded screens in Adobe Digital Editions' interface - she gets confused easily, and the interface tends to be overwhelming for her. I simply want to write a function (it can be a system() call to a command... that's fine) that will allow her to take a file received from the library or digital service and automatically retrieve the proper .epub file.

I've been through a process of installing, uninstalling and reinstalling various versions of Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). There is useful information on which versions of ADE will work on which versions of Wine at the WineHQ website. I found the options below worked for installing ADE on an Ubuntu 14.04LTS system (32-bit).

For what it's worth, I'm answering how to install Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.1 (which I needed because of the old-fashioned encryption they used before version 3) for Debian testing ("bookworm" as I am writing this answer). Here are the installation steps I have used, which should be quite the same for any recent Ubuntu distribution:

If you are experiencing problems (e.g. blank pages, pages not appearing to load properly) with reading ProQuest ebooks in Adobe Digital Editions after downloading them to your iPad, ProQuest suggest changing the display settings within the book to either a black or a sepia background. You can find out how to do this here.

If this doesn't work, you can also try using a different iOS app that supports Adobe DRM, such as PocketBook Reader.

To make effective use of eBooks you need to have an Adobe ID that will allow you to dowload books to either Adobe Digital Editions- to read on your computer or laptop, or Bluefire Reader- to read on your mobile device or iPad.

Adobe Digital Editions is free software that allows you to download, view, and manage eBooks on your computer or laptop. The first time you use Adobe Digital Editions to open an eBook you will be asked to authorize your computer with your Adobe ID.

I have used Adobe Digital Editions for some time to read books borrowed from libraries. However after upgrading to High Sierra ADE is unresponsive. Can't de-authorize/re-authorize, and get error messages like this when I try to get a library book to open: E_ACT_NOT_READY

Adobe Digital Editions provides troubleshooting and help on their Support page. Any issues with the software will need to be sent to Adobe's support team. Please check their page for information and assistance.

When you are downloading an ebook and you are prompted with the following options, please choose the device that you are using now. For the example below, we assume that you intend to read it on your laptop or macbook, so please select "Laptop Desktop" and click "Continue".

How the Word Is Passed is a powerful reminder of the importance of historical research and an honest consideration of how this research plays out directly in our own lives today. Sensitively, patiently and persistently, Smith asks and answers deeply challenging questions: How have we been taught to remember? Whom do we memorialize? Smith interrogates how we come to know what we know, models ways to question that knowledge, and shows readers how to be courageous enough to let new realizations in.

Events and discussions for How the Word Is Passed will take place primarily in the Fall 2023 semester, with some additional programming in Spring 2024. We recommend that you plan to read How the Word Is Passed over the summer, before the start of the Fall semester.

Note: It is not possible to read Adobe DRM protected ebooks on the Kindle. Do not buy a Kindle ebook reader (besides Kindle Fire) with the expectation that you will be able to read DRM protected ebooks that you have previously downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions.

Sony Reader, Kobo eReaders and Nook Ebook Readers use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer ebooks in PDF or ePub format protected with Adobe DRM from the computer to the device. Amazon Kindle does not use Adobe Digital Editions.

With the exception of Kindle Fire (which allows you to download the Bluefire app), Kindle ebook readers can only access DRM protected ebooks that are protected with its own proprietary DRM (Kindle DRM). It is not possible to read Adobe DRM protected ebooks on the Kindle. Do not buy a Kindle ebook reader (besides Kindle Fire) with the expectation that you will be able to read DRM protected ebooks that you have previously downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions. However, the Kindle does support DRM-free PDF's. Simply hook up your Kindle to your computer through a USB cable and drag-and-drop the PDF's from your computer to the Kindle.

Connect your Kobo into the USB drive on your computer. Adobe Digital Editions should prompt you to authorize your Kobo. Use the same Adobe ID as you used to authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. Adobe Digital Editions will now recognize your Kobo and will list it within the Bookshelves area of the Adobe Digital Editions window.

Connect your Nook into the USB drive on your computer. Open Adobe Digital Editions. Adobe Digital Editions will now recognize your Nook and the Device Setup Assistant box should appear. Adobe Digital Editions should prompt you to authorize your Nook. Use the same Adobe ID as you used to authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.

To "Check out" an ebook, you DO need Adobe Digital Editions. Checking out the ebook means that you are reserving the use of the ebook for yourself alone for a certain period of time. It is most useful in the following circumstances:

After installing Adobe Digital Editions, you must "authorize your computer" or device. If the installation process does not automatically prompt you to do this, go to the Help menu and select "Authorize computer".
